We’re halfway through our Senior Spotlight Series, highlighting the Top 10 students from the DeSoto High School Class of 2026 in no particular order.

Next up, Class of 2026 Salutatorian, Desiree Arzapalo Munguia!

Desiree made her mark at DeSoto by balancing academics, leadership, and athletics with consistency and heart. She served as Vice President of the Spanish National Honor Society, Treasurer of the Math National Honor Society, and stayed active in So SMAART, Pretty With Purpose, and DHS Girls Soccer.

Along the way, she learned how to stay focused and positive, even when things got challenging. She credits mentors like Mr. Guerra, who supported her growth and helped guide her through both academic and personal milestones.

One of her favorite memories came on the field, celebrating her team’s victory in the 2025 girls soccer tournament—a moment that reflected her dedication, teamwork, and resilience.

Desiree is headed to The University of Texas at Austin to study Biology on a pre-med track, as she works toward becoming a pediatrician and making a difference in the lives of others.

Her advice: " Make the most of every moment, stay true to your goals, and surround yourself with people who push you to be your best."

All DeSoto ISD offices and campuses will be closed June 29 – July 3 in observance of Independence Day.

Summer office hours (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM) will resume July 6.

This is day 4 of our Senior Spotlight Series, highlighting the top 10 students from the DeSoto High School Class of 2026 in no particular order.

Next up, Taylor Jade Henderson.

Taylor made her mark at DeSoto through leadership, discipline, and a strong sense of purpose. She was active in both the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, but found her home in JROTC as part of the Eagle Battalion.

Through JROTC, Taylor built lasting relationships and grew into a confident leader. She credits mentors like CSM Joe Clayton, SFC Prueitt, and Colonel Hooper for helping shape her into the person she is today.

Taylor has a full ride scholarship to Texas Christian University where she will study Criminology and Criminal Justice. Her goal is to become a U.S. Air Force Officer and forensic expert, serving within the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.

Her advice : stay true to who you are, stay disciplined, and focus on growth.

It is day 3 of our Senior Spotlight Series, highlighting the Top 10 students from the DeSoto High School Class of 2026 in no particular order.

Next up is Destiny Hinds.

Destiny made the most of her time at DeSoto by finding balance. She stayed deeply involved in Student Council, Speech and Debate, and multiple honor societies, all while building meaningful friendships along the way.

For her, the experience was just as much about community as it was achievement. She credits Dr. Brian Beck-Smith as a mentor who pushed her to go further and expect more from herself.

Next, Destiny is heading to Parker University to study Diagnostic Medical Sonography, with plans to become an obstetric sonographer and make a meaningful impact in healthcare.

Her advice: Stay focused early, and give yourself room to enjoy the journey along the way.

Day 2 of our Senior Spotlight Series, where we’re highlighting the Top 10 students from the DeSoto High School Class of 2026 in no particular order.

Next up, Katherine Seekings.

Katherine made her mark at DeSoto by balancing academics, leadership, and creativity. She was involved in theater and the National Spanish Honor Society, but truly found her stride in Business Professionals of America, where she served as president for two years.

Some of her favorite moments came from competing with her team and making it to state—experiences that helped shape her confidence and leadership. She also credits Mrs. Williams as a mentor who believed in her and pushed her to reach her full potential.

Katherine is heading to The University of Texas at Arlington to study Entrepreneurship. She has already spent the past four years planning her future business and is working toward launching her own jewelry and art brand.

Her advice: Find what you enjoy, lean into your strengths, and get involved.

Introducing our Senior Spotlight Series, where we’re highlighting the Top 10 students from the DeSoto High School Class of 2026 in no particular order —starting with Simion Berryman, Jr.

Simion made the most of his time at DeSoto by challenging himself with courses like AP Calculus and AP Statistics, all while earning recognition through the National Society of High School Scholars. Along the way, he found inspiration in teachers like Dr. Becksmith, who encouraged him to aim higher.

Next up, Simion is enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin to study Computer Science and turn his love for problem-solving into a future in programming.

His advice is simple, "try new things, and take them one step at a time".

Congratulations, Simion!
