Happy Juneteenth, Brothers and friends of Zion Lodge No. 1!
May we all reflect on the historical significance of June 19th, and celebrate the strength, courage, honor the achievements of past generations who helped make freedom a reality, and have an appreciation for those very freedoms that we enjoy today.
Juneteenth is a federal holiday observed annually on June 19th, since the holiday was passed by 117th Congress on June 16th, 2021. The holiday’s name combines the words “June” and “nineteenth,” and Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when the enslaved people in Texas learned they were free more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued on January 1st, 1863.

to the Zion Lodge baseball team from the September 1920 Detroit Masonic News. Lodges at the Detroit Masonic Temple typically did not (and still don't) meet during the summer months, and inter-Lodge baseball leagues were popular from the 1920s through the 1950s as a way to encourage communication and fellowship during that time.

Thanks to all of the Zion Officers that attended our Q2 2026 Officers Meeting last night held in Zion Lounge, especially on such a rainy evening.
We had a great informal roundtable to discuss the year to date, Lodge priorities, activities, etc. Thanks for the all the great rich discussion and night of fun fellowship in the Temple!
Zion Lodge is about to take our customary summer break from meetings, however we have some fun summer activities on the horizon, watch this space for details!
A special thanks to three of Zion’s own Sise Brethren, Ryan, George (a 51-year member), and Kyle, for stopping by while visiting from Arizona to attend the meeting and provide their enthusiastic insights on the Craft. Great to see you all back in Lodge, brothers!

David Heineman was a member of Zion Lodge! The flag he designed is displayed at every meeting of Zion Lodge.
On June 12, 1908, Detroit's city flag was flown for the first time at a celebration for the Detroit Tigers. Created in 1907 by attorney and civic leader David Emil Heineman, the design was not officially adopted by the city until 1948.
