We aim to help break the cycle of poverty through a quality middle school education that will help empower each child to reach their full potential.

Durham Nativity School serves middle school boys who come from financially challenged (low income) families. The students should be able to thrive in a structured, academically challenging environment focused on the development of leadership skills and community service. The school provides the boys with emotional, social, moral and intellectual support through small classes, an extended day and a

On June 5, another group of young men walked across the Durham Nativity School stage, officially closing their 8th grade year and beginning their next chapter.

For 24 years, DNS has remained committed to walking alongside young men as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Graduation is more than a ceremony. It is a reminder of the perseverance, discipline, and courage it takes to keep moving forward when the work becomes difficult.

This class learned that mistakes are not the end of the journey. They are part of the process. When classes challenged them, they stayed the course. When high school applications felt uncertain, they corrected, adjusted, and kept going. Their ability to walk across the stage was not built in one day. It was built through every moment they chose not to give up.

At DNS, we are proud to celebrate these young men, their families, and the village that continues to support them as they dare to dream big, strive to excel, and take the next step toward becoming the leaders they are called to be.

What happens when you mix Durham Nativity students and alumni, community partners, and a little friendly golf competition?
Absolute magic.

Last week, we gathered at Topgolf for an incredible evening of networking, catching up, and swinging for the fences! It was inspiring to see our alumni connecting with the partners who help fuel our mission, sharing stories of success, and building new opportunities for the future.

A massive thank you to everyone who came out, brought their A-game, and continues to support the Durham Nativity School community. We are so proud of our alumni and deeply grateful for the partners who stand beside them.

Check out some highlights from the night!

Degrees in hand, brothers by their side.

When you graduate from DNS, you never walk across the stage alone. Massive congratulations to our incredible alumni who just graduated from Cristo Rey and are locked in for their next chapters:
Khamauri Evans – NC State
Lucio Cisneros – UNCG
Sebastian Badillo – UNC
Tide Fashuyi – UNCG

True to form, the DNS brotherhood showed up loud and proud to support them. Spotting the crew in the crowd:
Carlos (left) – Sophomore year at UNCC
Angel Aguilar – Elon University
Laureano Cortez – UNCC

High schools change, colleges scatter across the state, but this circle remains unbroken.

Proud of you all!

Distance means nothing when it comes to the DNS brotherhood.

All the way from Portugal, DNS alumnus Zac Jimmerson (Carolina Friends School alum and current UNC student) sent a powerful graduation message to our newest alumni!

Even on the other side of the world, Zac is still repping the community, yes, the DNS sweatshirt travels everywhere with him, and reminding the graduating class that the bond they built here follows them wherever they go.

Check out his full video message as we celebrate the next chapter for our graduates.

Obrigado, Zac!

We just wrapped up our Wednesday Speaker Series for the year, and our final two speakers brought a masterclass in resilience, representation, and dreaming big. We were honored to welcome Terrell Midgett and Terry Spain, who both left an indelible mark on our young men.

Terrell Midgett joined us to kick off Vitiligo Awareness Month, sharing a vital message about confidence, self-acceptance, and embracing what makes us unique. Following him, sports broadcaster Terry Spain, who flew in from Orlando, brought incredible energy and showed them what it takes to turn a passion into a career.

Both of these incredible leaders drove home the same fundamental truths: dream big, never give up, and never underestimate the power of connection.

Our Wednesday Speaker Series is a masterclass in networking. By introducing our boys to successful, passionate professionals, we are not just teaching them how to build a network; we are showing them a reflection of what they can achieve.

Thank you, Terrell and Terry, for investing your time into the next generation of leaders and a big thank you to Chris Jones for helping expand our network. You’ve reminded our young men that with resilience and the right community behind them, there are no limits to where their dreams can take them.

Brotherhood means showing up for the milestones. Always.

When you send your son to Durham Nativity School, he doesn’t just get an education for middle school, he gains a brotherhood for life.

Today, DNS alumni Angel Aguilar and Jason Bonilla came out to celebrate and cheer on Noah Lousey and Laureano Cortez at Trinity School's graduation. Just last weekend, the brotherhood was celebrating Angel as he graduated from Woodberry Forest.

The journey doesn't stop here. Next year, these young men are heading to these incredible universities:
Angel ➡️ Elon University
Noah ➡️ NC A&T State University
Laureano ➡️ UNC Charlotte
Jason ➡️ Returning to UNC Greensboro for his sophomore year

DNS young men stay locked in and support each other for life.

Congratulations, we are incredibly proud of you!

DNS was proud to welcome back alumnus Sargent Zakee Heyward (DNS '12) to speak with our young men. A graduate of Fork Union Military Academy and Virginia Tech, Sargent shared powerful insights on how a DNS education serves as a lifelong advantage. Drawing from his own journey, he spoke to the students about how the discipline, values, and academic foundation built here will distinguish them from their peers in high school, college, and the competitive workforce.

Thank you, Sargent Heyward, for your service, your time, and your dedication to inspiring our future leaders!
