EJE Academies Charter School

to ask for support to keep their school open. EJE organized hundreds of parents, educators, and community members to stop the closure, but the district upheld their decision to close the school. Most of the 500 low-income students who attended Ballantyne were sent to overcrowded and underperforming schools. EJE, as the lead organization, and the parents decided that in order to provide a quality bilingual education and to better serve low-income students they needed to create their own school. EJE presented a charter to the Cajon Valley School District and it was approved in 2004. EJE Elementary opened it doors in August 2005 as the first independent, community led, 90-10 dual-language (Spanish-English) school in the county. In 2009 EJE successfully opened the Middle School. The vision of EJE Elementary Academy is to provide a comprehensive and challenging educational plan that provides all children with the tools necessary for future success.
