🌟 Tuesday Tip #26: Trust Your Instincts

You know your body and baby better than anyone. Midwifery care empowers you to trust your intuition and make informed choices.

✨ Midwife Reminder:
We’re your partners — here to educate, guide, and support, not to take over.

Your instincts are your greatest birth tool.

đź’ž Tuesday Tip #25: Midwives Care for YOU Too

Postpartum visits focus on both baby and birthing person. We check your physical healing, mental health, sleep, nutrition, and emotional wellbeing.

✨ Midwife Approach:
Your voice matters. We listen and tailor care — because you are the heart of your family.

Our care doesn’t end at birth — it’s a journey, and we walk it with you.

Dear Former Clients of Attuned Midwifery Services and El Paso Birth Community,

I am writing to alert you of some upcoming changes for Attuned Midwifery Services. I have accepted a position with Vida Midwifery in Las Cruces as a staff midwife.

Vida Midwifery is a group midwifery practice attending homebirths in Southern New Mexico that is opening a birth center in July 2026. I’ve known the midwives at Vida for years, and I trust and respect them. I’ve been working towards a group midwifery model for years, and it has not worked out. Therefore, this is an opportunity I am excited to accept. I believe group practice creates greater sustainability for midwives, and also better overall care for birthing families. The birth center they are building is going to be gorgeous, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work there.

However, it does mean that I will be slowly closing my practice at Attuned Midwifery Services. After 10 years of building this practice, I feel sad about letting it go. I have been honored to care for so many families in El Paso. I will begin working at Vida Midwifery in 2026, and will complete the care for any clients currently registered with us through the end of 2026. I will not be accepting any new clients that are due in July 2026 or later.

In the future, if you do become pregnant, I encourage you to consider giving birth at Vida Midwifery’s birth center. (www.vidamidwifery.com). If you prefer to have a home birth here in El Paso, I will be able to refer you to some of my wonderful colleagues for your care. I will be maintaining my Texas midwifery license, but my commitment to Vida Midwifery will make it unlikely that I’ll be taking any private clients for homebirths in El Paso.

I do plan on having some type of celebration as Attuned Midwifery begins to wind down. I also hit the milestone of attending 1000 births in 2025, and have been learning and practicing midwifery for 25 years. Stay tuned as plans for that celebration come to fruition! I hope that you all can come celebrate with us. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about this transition.

🌿 Why Midwifery Care Matters 💛

At Attuned Midwifery Services, we believe that midwifery care is not just about delivering babies—it's about providing personalized, compassionate care that supports families throughout their entire pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. Here’s why midwifery care matters and how it can make a meaningful difference in your birth experience:

1. Holistic Care for the Whole Family
Midwifery care is rooted in holistic principles, which means we view each person as a whole, not just a set of medical symptoms. We consider your physical, emotional, mental, and even spiritual well-being throughout the entire process. Our approach supports not only the birthing person but also the entire family—including your partner and children.

2. Continuity of Care
With midwifery care, you can expect continuity and consistency. From the moment you find out you’re pregnant to well after your baby is born, you will receive care from the same midwife or team of midwives. This consistent relationship fosters trust and helps create a supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and respected.

3. Personalized Birth Plans
Every pregnancy and birth experience is unique. Midwives work closely with families to create personalized birth plans that align with your values and preferences. Whether you want a home birth, water birth, or natural pain management, midwives will provide the support, guidance, and resources you need to make informed choices and create the birth experience you desire.

Why It Matters to You
At Attuned Midwifery Services, we believe that midwifery care matters because it provides a safe, personalized, and supportive approach to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. Our mission is to empower families, honor birth choices, and provide the highest level of care every step of the way.

💓 Fetoscope vs. Doppler: How We Listen to Baby’s Heartbeat 💓
At Attuned Midwifery Services, we have two beautiful ways to check in on your baby’s heartbeat — and we honor your preferences every step of the way.

🎧 Fetoscope
A fetoscope is a special type of stethoscope designed to listen to baby’s heartbeat — naturally and without electronics.
🌿 Completely non-electronic and radiation-free
🌿 Often preferred by those wanting minimal intervention
🌿 Typically used after ~20 weeks when baby’s heartbeat is easier to hear

✨ It can be a beautiful, quiet moment to connect with baby — and yes, you can hear it too!

đź“» Doppler
A handheld Doppler uses sound waves to detect and amplify your baby’s heartbeat.
⚡ Gives quick results and works earlier in pregnancy (~10–12 weeks)
⚡ Helpful during labor for quicker access between contractions
⚡ A little louder and more clinical, but reassuring when used appropriately

We offer both options and help you choose what feels best for you and your baby. Whether you're all about that swooshing Doppler sound or love the natural rhythm of the fetoscope, we’ve got you covered.

🤱 Tuesday Tip #24: Breastfeeding Pain Is NOT Normal

While some discomfort is common in early days, pain is a signal that something needs attention.

✨ Midwife Support:
We offer hands-on help with latch, positioning, and common challenges like tongue tie or oversupply.

Early intervention prevents long-term issues and helps make breastfeeding a positive experience for you and baby.

Remember: Comfort is key!

I love when things work out (thanks to my colleagues being willing to step in if needed). Two babies were getting ready to come on the same day. But they took their turns and came 12 hours apart. This midwife even got to sleep for 4 hours between them. Very respectful, very polite. (this is an unfiltered photo of what I look like after a post-birth nap)
