Did you know that the first dish Julia ever cooked on television was an omelette? In 1962, to promote “Mastering the Art of French Cooking,” Julia appeared on “I’ve Been Reading,” hosted by Professor Albert Duhamel on WGBH, a local Boston public television station. In her memoir, “My Life in France,” Julia wrote about the appearance: “In response to that little book program, WGBH received twenty-seven more or less favorable letters from viewers. I don’t think one of them mentioned the book, but they did say things like ‘Get that woman back on television. We want to see some more cooking!’” GBH

While we don’t have footage of Julia on “I’ve Been Reading,” we can watch her make an omelette—several, in fact—on “The French Chef.” Check out a clip via the link in the comments!
