Another update from Raven,

“When will my baby be ready?” It's a natural question that is asked when picking out a new baby Indian Ringneck.

Every baby develops on their own schedule. I will never rush the weaning process simply to meet a date on the calendar.

My goal is to send home a healthy, companion — not just a baby that is “old enough.”

I do not practice rushed or forced weaning methods.

Young parrots thrive when they are allowed to transition naturally from formula feedings to solid foods. During this stage, babies are offered a variety of nutritious foods including pellets, fresh vegetables, and millet spray while continuing to receive feedings as needed. I watch constantly to evaluate their confidence in their own self-reliance to eat on their own.

As their confidence grows, they gradually begin refusing formula on their own. This creates a healthier relationship with food and helps reduce stress during development.

Babies must eat solid foods on their own and drink independently without assistance.

A baby that still relies heavily on continued feedings is not ready for transition into a new environment.

Before pickup or shipping is scheduled, the baby must demonstrate several consecutive days of stable eating habits and independence. Handfeeding stops when the bird stops asking to be fed.

Why This Matters

Allowing a bird to wean at its own pace helps create a companion that is:

• more secure and confident
• less anxious around food
• physically stronger during development
• better adjusted to family life

Early experiences shape a parrot for life, and I believe those experiences should be built on trust, patience, and proper care.

A Commitment to Quality Care

I understand waiting can be difficult, especially when you are excited about your new family member. However, the extra time invested during this stage can make an enormous difference in the long-term health and temperament of a young parrot.

Thank you for supporting responsible aviculture and for valuing the well-being of these incredible birds above convenience or speed.
