Today our kids learned about water safety with Swim4Elise Foundation. As summer starts, it is important for children and adults to remain vigilant around water as we try to stay cool in the summer heat. Your child went home with a book and some more information that will help you and your family talk about the importance of water safety!
Did you know:
▪️Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury death for children ages 1 to 4 in the United States, and claims the lives of nearly 900 children and adolescents nationwide every year
▪️ A child can drown in as little as 1 to 2 inches of water. Common household hazards include bathtubs, buckets, toilets, and wading pools.
▪️The Speed of Drowning: Drowning happens quickly and often silently; a child can lose consciousness in as little as two minutes of submersion, and permanent brain damage can occur within 4 to 6 minutes.
