Raise your hand if you're using some sort of sound wall in your classroom? 🙋♀️
Sound walls are a great visual 👀 for students of how phonemes and letters or letter patterns are used to write words. Giving each student a copy of their own sound wall is a valuable tool in the classroom. 😍

Dare I go here?? 😆 Yikes!! If you have been around here long, you know that I am a long-time proponent of balanced literacy.
I had lots of training in it.
I have blogged about it.
Shared about it.
Led professional development about it.
I believed in it because so many people I respected also did!
But then the research that has been around for years started rising to the top. Teachers started learning more. We started doing our own research. I leaned in when all I truly wanted to do was turn my head and run if I am being truly honest.
And friends, I'm here to tell you that there isn't a lot of value in holding on to the 3 cueing system.
It's okay to let it go.
And it's okay to give yourself grace as you are learning more and more! I encourage you to!
So, if you are on your own journey of letting go of old practices and leaning into new ones, welcome! I am so glad you are here! I hope you find a soft place to land as you are making changes in your classroom!
