✨ The Force (of habit) is strong in Alachua County. ✨

This May, members of the Reuse Rebellion joined forces to break the single-use plastic habit and show off their reusable alternatives. From bags and bottles to sporks and containers, you proved that small everyday choices can help create a cleaner, greener galaxy.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our May the Spork Be With You campaign and showed that reducing waste doesn't require Jedi-level powers—just a little consistency.

Missed out on winning a reusable spork, T-shirt, or other galactic swag? Don't worry—your adventure isn't over yet! Catch our team at local movie theaters this June, where “Sporky" will be joining his pal Forky and the rest of the Toy Story crew to spread an important message: single-use plastic…actually IS trash, but you’ve got a friend in reusable items.

⚠️ Critical Safety Reminder
Please keep lithium batteries OUT of trash and recycle bins. ❌🔋
- Battery fires are highly dangerous.
- They cause severe equipment damage.
- They create major service delays for everyone.

Want to see the facility in person? We offer free, behind-the-scenes tours! Email Alanna Carinio, Public Education Program Coordinator, at [email protected] to schedule your visit today.

Highlighting Solid Waste workers in Alachua County The transfer station also offers free compost, dual stream recycling, and they create about 200 to 350 gallons of biodiesel gas a month to help fuel the garbage trucks.

When plastic bags go in the recycling bin, they can jam sorting equipment, cause shutdowns and delays, and even send otherwise recyclable materials straight to the landfill. At sorting facilities, staff and machines need to quickly identify and separate materials. Bagged items can make this task impossible, causing them to be skipped altogether and sent to the landfill.

♻️ Recycle right:
- Place items loose in the bin—no bagging
- Only exception: shredded paper can go in a paper bag
- Never place plastic bags in curbside recycling containers
- Return plastic bags to participating store drop-off bins for recycling

Recycling works best when everyone participates correctly. Thank you, Alachua County, for Recycling Right!
