Let’s welcome our new 6th grade math teacher, Mrs. Laura Bryant!

Mrs. Laura Bryant is an accomplished educator and musician with a diverse background in music performance and teaching. She graduated from the University of Mississippi, where she made significant contributions to the university’s music programs. A dedicated member of the Pride of the South Marching Band and color guard, Mrs. Bryant was also a prominent player in the university’s various instrumental ensembles, performing on both the Eb contra-alto bass clarinet and the BBb contrabass clarinet. Her musical talents extended beyond the marching band, as she also performed as a bass clarinet soloist with the University of Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, while contributing to the Ole Miss Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band.

Mrs. Bryant began her teaching career in the Greenwood Public School District as the Director of Middle School Bands, where she honed her skills as an educator and mentor. She later spent seven years with the South Panola School District, serving in multiple roles, including assistant band director, color guard choreographer and instructor, and woodwind coordinator. During this time, she played an instrumental role in developing the South Panola Band Program, fostering student growth and artistic achievement.
In 2021, Mrs. Bryant expanded her horizons internationally, relocating to Seoul, South Korea, to teach English as a Second Language with Chungdahm Learning. Her dedication and excellence in the classroom earned her recognition as the number two teacher across the entire company and country, marking a significant milestone in her career abroad.
After returning from teaching abroad, Mrs. Bryant spent two wonderful years at Lake Cormorant Middle School and High School. She taught middle and high school band, coached and choreographed color guard, and taught eighth-grade math, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to student success across multiple disciplines.

Now in her first year with Houston Middle School, Mrs. Bryant is incredibly excited to start the year and meet all of her sixth-grade mathematicians! Go Mustangs!

Ready to kick off middle school?

Rising 6th graders are invited to join us for HMS Summit on July 24 from 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. This student-only event is designed to help incoming Mustangs feel confident, connected, and excited about the year ahead. Students will meet staff and administrators, participate in fun activities, enjoy a chilled treat, and get answers to their questions before the first day of school.

Parents, think of this as a practice run for middle school independence. Drop them off, enjoy a few kid-free hours, and we’ll have them ready for pickup at noon.

Our Q4 Pep Rally brought the energy as we celebrated an incredible season of spring sports, school spirit, and Mustang pride! Students cheered on their classmates, competed in crowd-favorite games, and helped make the gym one of the loudest places in town for the afternoon.

A big congratulations to Lipizzan for earning the final Spirit Stick of the year! The competition was strong all year long, and our students showed great teamwork, enthusiasm, and house pride every step of the way. What a fun way to close out another great year at HMS!

Our National Junior Honor Society students showed what Mustang leadership looks like in action at the Mid-South Food Bank!

This amazing crew created 250 food boxes, sorted 2,385 pounds of food, and helped prepare 2,862 meals for families in our community. We are so proud of these students for using their time and talents to serve others with kindness, teamwork, and heart.
