Many people are bringing back the ancient arts of building with earth and natural, local resources. As people have begun to look for more “Green”, sustainable, or ecological alternatives there has been a growing demand for these types of natural constructions. I am using materials directly from the earth, they are not processed, they are local, and they are healthy for you and your family. I am go

Want to build your own house with no mortgage? Maybe you want to escape the rat-race too?

Lots of people are checking out of the system to live life more on their own terms now.

It all starts with property and building your house. And then becoming self-sustainable. Whether that’s all on your own, or with a community of like-minded people.

If you want to learn how to build a non-toxic earthen house, but you can’t attend any classes, I’ve created several educational video workshops. You can download it all and get started learning today.

And I have it all on sale at a massive discount until Monday night.

This includes over 20 hours of updated video lessons on cob and natural building. (I recently added 60 new instructional videos with updated lessons.)

Over 150 pages of detailed notes and reading, and over 100 design diagrams that I put together with extreme precision.

Plus, my 50 State USA Guide and a Property Purchase Checklist for finding the perfect land to build a natural home or alternative home on!

I dare you to try and find all this information at other teachers’ workshops and classes. You’d probably have to spend thousands of dollars just to find it and put all the pieces together.

In this case, I’ve crafted it all together for you for quick, easy learning. Saving you years of time, and lots of money.

Not only have I always offered my courses at low prices, but I’m offering this at 90% off until Monday at midnight. So yeah, I’m practically giving it all to you. :)

"Can I even get a permit for a natural building?"

This might be the most frustrating question in the whole process.

The truth? It depends entirely on where you're building.

Some areas are very permissive. Others make it nearly impossible. Most are somewhere in between.

I've been navigating building codes with natural building across multiple states. Here's what I've learned:

Codes are often the biggest obstacle — not the construction itself.

That's exactly why I included the 50-state land buying guide in this course. It helps you identify natural-building-friendly areas BEFORE you buy property.

Because buying land in the wrong county can cost you greatly and give you years of headaches.

The guide covers:
- Which states are most permissive
- County-level regulations to research
- Questions to ask before buying
- Red flags to watch for
- How to find unincorporated areas

I also show you how to make your designs more code-friendly, which modifications help with permits, and which battles are worth fighting.

This knowledge could save you from the single most expensive mistake in natural building: buying the wrong property.

P.S. This applies whether you're building cob, rammed earth, straw-clay, strawbale, or any alternative method. The permit challenges are similar across all natural building. Though some methods are easier to get permits for than others.

"I've never built anything before. Can I really do this?"

I get this question constantly.

And my answer is always the same: Yes. Absolutely.

Some of my most successful students had zero building experience when they started.

What they had instead:
- Willingness to learn
- Ability to follow instructions
- Determination to create housing freedom

That's basically it.

I've been teaching since 2011. I've guided complete beginners through entire builds. The course is designed for someone starting from scratch.

We go step by step:
- How to test your soil
- How to mix materials (by hand or machine)
- How to build forms for cob, rammed earth, or straw-clay
- How to install windows and doors
- How to attach a roof
- How to apply natural plasters

No assumed knowledge. Everything explained clearly.

And you can watch the videos as many times as you need. Pause, rewind, review — at your own pace.

The Foundation Lesson That Saves $5,000+

We're about halfway through the Spring Sale and I wanted to share something important.

**48 spots remaining** (at the $50 price).

The most common mistake I see in natural building? People skip proper foundation work.

Bad foundation work can lead to severe and expensive problems like: walls cracking, uneven sinking of walls, and moisture intrusion (the leading cause of building failure).

All from improper foundations. Cost to fix: $5,000-$50,000. Or worse - starting over.

Here's the problem: Most natural building workshops don't teach foundations.

**But this course STARTS with foundations:**
- When to use concrete slabs vs. rubble trench vs. stone
- Proper drainage design
- Moisture barriers
- Frost protection
- Foundation work for ALL climates

This section alone is worth more than the $50 sale price.

And it applies whether you're building cob, straw-clay, rammed earth, adobe, strawbale, hempcrete, or conventional building.

**48 spots left.** Sale ends June 8th, midnight.

I'm practically giving this to you

Since 2011, I've helped thousands of people through workshops, this video course, consulting, and my books. And here's what I've learned:

The people who succeed aren't the ones with the most money or the most experience.

They're the ones who get the right knowledge BEFORE they start building.

I've watched too many people:
- Build foundations that fail
- Build homes that develop moisture problems
- Waste thousands on land and designs that never get permit approved
- Buy land that's completely wrong for natural building/alternative building

This course exists to prevent those kinds of mistakes.

For $50 (less than a few fast-food meals), you get the education that could save you $50,000+ in building errors.

Everything works for cob, straw-clay, rammed earth, adobe, strawbale, hempcrete — any natural building method.

P.S. Maggie in Portugal started building when she was 63. By 68, she'd completed a cob roundhouse, goat shed, and greenhouse/bathroom combo — total cost under $5,000. She followed this course step by step.

The $939,000 housing mistake

Let me show you two paths.

Path A — Conventional home:

- Median home price: $400,000
- 30-year mortgage at 7%
- Monthly payment: ~$2,650
- Total paid over 30 years: $954,000
- You own it at age 60. Maybe.

Path B — Cob house / Natural Alternative Building:

- Materials cost: $30,000 (realistic starting point for a solid build)
- Labor: Your own (with the right instruction)
- Monthly payment: $0
- Total paid: $30,000
- You own it the day you finish building

Same result. Completely different financial reality.

The average American spends nearly $1 million on housing over their lifetime.

Most of that goes straight to a bank.

Natural building flips that equation entirely.

Is it more work upfront? Yes. Does it require learning real skills? Absolutely.

That's exactly what this course teaches you.

For $50 right now, you get the complete roadmap to Path B.

Do the math,

Alex

Photos from This Cob House's post 05/27/2026

Will this work in my climate?

One of the most common questions I get: "Will this work where I live?"

Short answer: Yes.

I've taught people natural building in:
- Freezing Montana winters
- Humid Florida summers
- Desert Southwest heat
- Pacific Northwest rain
- Everything in between

Natural building adapts to your climate. You just need to know HOW to adapt it.

In the course, I show you:
- Insulation strategies for cold climates
- Moisture management for humid regions
- Foundation designs for different soil types
- Roof overhang calculations for your rainfall
- Ventilation requirements by climate zone

This isn't theoretical. These are proven techniques from real builds in real conditions.

The course works for cob, but also for straw-clay (excellent for cold climates), rammed earth (great for deserts), adobe, hempcrete, strawbale, and more.

Quick update: 47 people grabbed the course yesterday.

103 spots left before this sale closes — or 2 weeks, whichever comes first.

I want to share something with you.

Since 2011, I've helped thousands of people through workshops, this video course, consulting, and my books. And the one thing I've learned is this:

The people who succeed at natural building aren't the ones with the most money or the most experience.

They're the ones who get the right knowledge BEFORE they start.

I've watched too many people:
- Pour foundations that crack within a year
- Build walls that develop moisture problems
- Waste thousands on permits that never get approved
- Buy land that's completely wrong for natural building

This course exists to prevent those exact mistakes.

For $50 — less than a single bag of cement and a few supplies — you get the education that could save you $20,000+ in costly building errors.

103 spots remaining:
https://www.thiscobhouse.com/spring-sale

Alex

P.S. Whether you want to build with cob, straw-clay, rammed earth, adobe, or any other natural method — these lessons apply directly. The physics of foundations, thermal mass, moisture management, and structural design are the same across all of them.
