A local family from Chuckey is facing the fight of their lives as baby Violet continues her battle in the NICU at Vanderbilt.

Nikki and Brandon, parents of three daughters, recently welcomed sweet baby Violet after a difficult pregnancy filled with extensive testing and trips to Nashville. Violet was diagnosed with a rare and severe congenital heart defect known as Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) with Pulmonary Atresia.

Nikki, a labor and delivery nurse in Greeneville who has spent years caring for mothers and newborns, has now stepped away from work to remain by Violet’s side during her lengthy hospitalization.

Since her birth on April 13, Violet has already undergone multiple surgeries and procedures, with at least one more major heart surgery expected before she can come home. Doctors believe her stay at Vanderbilt could last six months or longer.

The family is facing mounting medical expenses, travel costs, meals, lodging, and lost income during this incredibly difficult season.
