We are a tuition-free, public community school in the Highland Park School District open to all PK-8 students. We teach an accredited, college prep curriculum and use technology daily in each classroom to accelerate student learning and readiness. Our school is newly under the management of ACCEL Schools, an established and award-winning public charter school operator. Our safe, secure campus features a brand new school library and we offer full-day, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs.

Congratulations to Ms. Appelman our 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year! Ms. Appelman has been at Barber for the past two years as our amazing art teacher. This year she took our art program to the next level by creating galleries in the hallway and taking scholars on tours. In addition to working hard in her classroom, she collaborates with her colleagues to support the Global Studies initiatives and creation of beautiful spaces throughout the building. This year, she led the organization of our International Fair and our first annual student art auction. Ms. Appelman is a tremendous member of the team who goes above and beyond to inspire the creativity in others! Thank you for being a member of the team & congratulations on this recognition!
