Stevens professor Dibyendu “Dibs” Sarkar has been named a Fulbright Specialist by the U.S. Department of State, taking his expertise to the global stage through one of the most prestigious academic honors in the world.
This fall, he will travel to Birla Institute of Technology in India to collaborate with faculty and students on “Sustainable Environmental Remediation and Technology,” a project focused on the long-term impacts of decades of mining and industrial activity in the Jharkhand region.
He is among more than 400 U.S. citizens selected each year for the Fulbright Specialist Program, which advances international academic exchange and collaboration. A strong example of Stevens researchers driving meaningful impact well beyond the classroom.

Send to a Duck who’s missing their favorite place this summer 🦆✨🫶

Mary VanLeer M.Eng. ’12 and her husband William are making a meaningful impact at Stevens through a generous legacy gift supporting scholarships and research in systems engineering.
Their support will help open doors for students, strengthen hands-on research opportunities and empower the next generation of engineers to tackle complex, real-world challenges.
“Because I had this Stevens education, I had the confidence to do things I thought I’d never be able to do,” Mary shares. “I hope my support for students will give them the same opportunities I had.” ⭐
We are grateful to the VanLeers for their generosity and commitment to giving back to Stevens and supporting the success of future Ducks!
