Celebrating local talent in our community! "Kūkini", written for the screen and directed by Mitchel Merrick (2019 Creative Lab Hawaiʻi Web Series Immersive Fellow) with a story by Hawaiian singer-songwriter Paula Fuga, heads to the prestigious Maoriland Film Festival on March 24th.
Set in 1790 Hawaiai, this powerful drama-action short brings audiences on a journey with an elite warrior on a dangerous mission, and explores rich cultural heritage and native storytelling.
The Hawaiʻi International Film Festival (HIFF) is readying their upcoming Spring Showcase for March 21-28, presented by Halekulani! See some of the year's most talked-about films, including local talent showcases, award-winning Made-in-Hawai'i films, and a curated lineup of international cinema.

DBEDT's Creative Industries Chief Officer, Georja Skinner, and Beckie Stocchetti, Executive Director of Hawai’i International Film Festival, set down earlier this morning with Cynthia Yip at KITV to share dynamic updates from local creative content productions and filmmakers and news from Academy Awards-qualifying fest, HIFF!
What a morning at ! Kuhaʻo Zane, Creative Director of Sig Zane Designs, brought a fresh perspective on the theme of "Native" to a sold-out Creative Mornings crowd, along with exciting performances from guest artists (and 2023 Creative Lab Hawaiʻi Music Immersive Fellows) Kalaʻe Parish and Kalenaku Parish. Mahalo to everyone who came out to the event, including CLH Music Immersive co-director Julia Brotman and 2024 cohort fellow Eddy Bishai!
Exciting News! "Aikāne" and "The Wind & the Reckoning" () are heading to the National Mall for the The Smithsonian Mother Tongue Film Festival, offering a dynamic opportunity to celebrate Hawai'i film and animation on a global stage. Exploring this year's theme of "Finding Balance," the festival is back for its ninth annual event starting this week, featuring 23 films in 27 languages from communities worldwide.
