Ohara School of Ikebana Honolulu Chapter

We would like to announce the upcoming Soka (挿花) online event, "Let's connect with flowers! Ikebana Day".
This program would be with English subtitles.
Start from July 6 to 28.
Headmaster Hiroki Ohara and Masakazu Chiji,
Associate Professor of the Council of Ohara Professors,
will demonstrate the Shikisai Moribana and the Shakei Moribana.
In addition, there would be an event of members of the Ohara school in Japan and overseas present in this event talking about their activities, etc.
The video also introduces the Headmaster arranging flowers at the historic church and the celebrations in the World Heritage building at the Vatican City and in the World Heritage building.

In October, the Honolulu ikebana community was honored to welcome Jose Salcedo, First Term Master of the Ohara School, as their guest demonstrator. The demonstration was held virtually. Salcedo Sensei created five arrangements: Rising Form, Basket, Heika, Rimpa and Realistic Landscape. We enjoyed not only the ikebana but also Jose's informative and engaging narration. Not to mention the beautiful, colorful autumn materials that were a feast for our tropical eyes.

Thank you Jose Salcedo Sensei for a wonderful demonstration. The Honolulu ikebana ohana enjoyed every moment of it! Mahalo nui loa!

［花のある部屋58］

深く切り込みの入った特徴的な葉や、ふわふわとした綿毛。
器にいけられると可憐な草花のように見える竹似草ですが、実際は1ｍ～2mまで背高く成長します。その出生感を強調するために、足元の繁みを低く構成しました。
季節は夏の盛り。繁みの中に、そばが赤い花を咲かせています。
「竹似草」の名前の由来は、茎の中が空であるさまが竹を思わせることから。
しかし竹と共に煮ると、竹が柔らかくなって細工しやすくなるという俗説（実際は柔らかくなるわけではない）から、「竹煮草」と呼ぶこともあります。
こうしたこぼれ話も、花を扱う楽しさの一つです。

花材：竹似草　夏はぜ　さるとりいばら　山しだ　そば
花器：信楽焼丸水盤
いけ手：白戸加奈子

［花のある部屋56］

小原流の独特な表現である琳派調いけばなは、琳派絵画からモチーフを得て構成されています。
こちらの作品は、酒井抱一筆「四季花鳥図屏風」をイメージしていけられました。
内側がゴールドの器を使うことで、金屏風を意識しています。紫陽花を低めに配し、その上に華々しいたちあおいが立つ姿に初夏の景色を感じます。
