"Of all the Saints, John is the only one whose birth is celebrated by the Liturgy. We heard in the first Reading that the Lord called his Servant "from his mother’s womb". This statement refers in its fullest sense to Christ, but in a derivative way it can also be applied to his Precursor.

Both are born as the result of a special intervention by God: the first is born of the Virgin, the second of an elderly and barren woman. Even from his mother’s womb John indicates the One who will reveal to the world the loving plan of God."

Happy Father's Day! May all fathers find in the Father of the Prodigal Son a perfect model of fatherly generosity, affection, and love.

"The father of the prodigal son is faithful to his fatherhood, faithful to the love that he had always lavished on his son. This fidelity is expressed in the parable not only by his immediate readiness to welcome him home when he returns after having squandered his inheritance; it is expressed even more fully by that joy, that merrymaking for the squanderer after his return."

"We see symbolised in the heart of Mary her maternal love, her singular sanctity and her central role in the redemptive mission of her Son. It is with regard to her special role in her Son’s mission that devotion to Mary’s Heart has prime importance, for through love of her Son and of all of humanity she exercises a unique instrumentality in bringing us to him."

"The Heart of the Lord Jesus is the starting-point of the holiness of each one of us. From the Heart of the Lord Jesus let us learn the love of God and understanding of the mystery of sin — mysterium iniquitatis....

Heart of Jesus, burning flame of love,
Heart of Jesus, fount of life and holiness,
Heart of Jesus, expiation for our sins
— have mercy on us. Amen."

Over the past nine days, team members of the St. John Paul II Foundation have prayed a novena to consecrate themselves and the Foundation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Today, our prayers culminated with Mass in our office and the final consecration prayers after Mass, uniting us with the historic occasion of the Bishops of the United States consecrating the United States of America to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

An image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and our certificate of consecration will be displayed in our office.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have Mercy on Us!

St. John Paul II reminds us that in the Eucharist "the invisible face of Christ, the Son of God, is manifest in his Body and Blood in the simplest and, at the same time, the most exalted way possible in this world."

"And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy."

(Luke 1:43-44)

St. John Paul II writes on that the Holy Trinity is "a divine mystery that challenges and involves us, because a share in the Trinitarian life was given to us through grace, through the redemptive Incarnation of the Word and the gift of the Holy Spirit."
