A Nice Hike Up a Local Hill 21May2026 05/21/2026

Some video from a short hike this morning. Shady, peaceful, and serene.

I like that hike. It is 450 feet up in less than half a mile, on a rocky, rugged trail that sometimes goes up rock shelves. It is a serious hike, no joke, that would take the typical American maybe 40 to 60 minutes to do, I think.

I’s a hike where, if you’re not mindful, you could easily sprain an ankle, injure knee, break a collarbone, or break a neck.

Hiking it well takes focus and attention. I love it. it is good food for thought for the Ecological Approach to visual perception.

It gets me going in body and mind, helps me wake up, helps my brain function, it helps me sharpen my focus.

I’ve never tried to do it for speed. I hike uphill, and then trot downhill, always adjusting my pace and measuring my movement to fit the environment.

FoundMyFitness Topic - Coffee 12/30/2025

A detailed scientific breakdown of the health benefits of coffee.

Abstract: “Coffee is more than just a morning ritual or a comforting pick-me-up—it's a scientifically supported pathway to improved health, performance, and longevity. As one of the world's most widely consumed beverages, coffee has long been celebrated for its energizing properties. However, emerging research now highlights its remarkable potential to extend lifespan, slow biological aging, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.

“Coffee reduces the body's biological age by modulating gene expression and protects against cardiovascular events and neurodegenerative diseases. Regular coffee drinkers consistently demonstrate a younger biological profile, with optimal effects seen around 2–3 cups daily, especially when consumed earlier in the day to align with our natural circadian rhythms. Even coffee preparation methods matter—filtered coffee appears superior for maximizing benefits while minimizing risks. Coffee's rich blend of antioxidants, polyphenols, and beneficial compounds make it a powerful tool in supporting metabolic health, enhancing cognitive function, and even boosting physical performance. This beloved beverage doesn't just awaken the senses—it actively promotes a longer, healthier, and more vibrant life.”

Wembanyama’s secret weapon: the training method taking over the NBA 11/01/2025

But what is going on here is not superficial or “something we’ve always done.“ The CLA develops out of the work of J.J. Gibson, who developed in psychology the idea that we perceive and experience reality directly.

It is a radical approach that opposes other philosophical approaches like that of Plato, Kant, Descartes, and BF Skinner.

Wembanyama’s secret weapon: the training method taking over the NBA In basketball today, drills and gym time are no longer enough. As the pace, spacing, and complexity of the game grow, so do the demands on players: decision-making under pressure, adaptability, creativity, and the ability to perform in chaotic situations.

Fascia Training in Application: Applying the New Science of Speed, Power, and Injury Resilience 08/14/2025

My current read/listen.

“If you want to be faster, stronger, and less prone to injury, it's critical you understand how important the body's fascia system is to athletic performance. Modern research and imaging technologies are showing us that it's far more significant than we have long understood.

“That's why Bill Parisi — founder of the Parisi Speed School — and extreme sports writer, Johnathon Allen, set out on a nationwide quest to interview the top experts in the field so they could present this new performance science in a paradigm shifting book that's not only packed with practical information, but also entertaining to read!

“Fascia Training: A Whole-System Approach, explores the new evidence-based science of fascia training as explained by top experts in the field, including ‘Dr. Back Mechanic’ Stu McGill, champion Olympic coach Dan Pfaff, founder of Anatomy Trains Tom Myers, biomechanist Ken Clark, founder of Sparta Science Phil Wagner MD, and assistan coach of the Philadelphia 76ersTodd Wright. Fascia Training is a ‘must read’ for anyone serious about improving performance and reducing injury.”
