The young Karol Wojtyła became associated with the Jagiellonian University in 1938 after passing his secondary school final exams in Wadowice.
😇📚👨🏼🎓Karol Wojtyła and the Jagiellonian University:
Polish Philology (1938–1939): He enrolled in Polish studies at the Faculty of Philosophy, driven by a passion for literature and theater. He managed to complete only the first year.
Outbreak of war and employment: On November 6, 1939, the N***s carried out *Sonderaktion Krakau*, arresting professors and shutting down the university. To avoid deportation for forced labor, Wojtyła took up arduous manual work at a quarry and the Solvay soda plant in Kraków.
Underground classes and theology: From 1942, he continued his education through underground classes. However, he changed his field of study and entered the clandestine Metropolitan Major Seminary, studying theology at the Jagiellonian University's Faculty of Theology.
Academic career: He completed his formal theological studies after the war. In 1948, he obtained a master's degree and defended his doctorate in theology at the Jagiellonian University. In 1953, he completed his habilitation process at the university.
