حنان حمّاد أستاذة التاريخ العربي الحديث ومديرة مركز الدراسات العربية في جامعة هيوستن. وُلدت ونشأت في مصر، ودرست الإعلام والصحافة في جامعة القاهرة. وبعد عملها لعدة سنوات في مجال الصحافة، انتقلت إلى العمل الأكاديمي، وحصلت على درجة الماجستير في دراسات الشرق الأوسط، ثم على الدكتوراه في التاريخ والدراسات الفارسية من جامعة تكساس في أوستن عامي 2004 و2009 على التوالي. وهي مؤرخة اجتماعية وثقافية يركّز عملها على الطبقات العاملة، والنوع الاجتماعي والجنسانية، والطفولة، والثقافة الشعبية في العالم العربي الحديث، إضافة إلى التفاعل الاجتماعي والثقافي بين العرب والإيرانيين في القرن العشرين. من كتبها الجنسانية في العصر الصناعي: النوع الاجتماعي، والتحضّر، والتحولات الاجتماعية في مصر و ماضٍ مجهول: ليلى مراد، النجمة اليهودية-المسلمة في مصر. وقبل انضمامها إلى جامعة هيوستن، كانت حمّاد أستاذةً في جامعة تكساس كريستيان، حيث أسّست وأدارت برنامج دراسات الشرق الأوسط، كما ترأست قسم دراسات المرأة والنوع الاجتماعي

CAS congratulates our Associate Student Dr. Priscilla JudsonWallace on her graduation after successfully defending her dissertation "Claudia Jones and the Black Radical Tradition: A Global Analysis." Her examiners were her advisor, Dr. David McNally, along with Drs. Tshepo Chery, Pratik Chakrabarti, and James Parisot.
