We’re excited to announce the launch of a new Early Career Track within our MBA@Rice Online MBA program!

Designed for high-potential professionals with less than three years of work experience, this new pathway offers young leaders a head start on accelerating their career trajectory without pausing their professional momentum.

Students admitted through this track will complete the same curriculum and earn the same MBA@Rice degree as students in our traditional pathway — but they’ll spend one year in a dedicated peer cohort with specialized career and leadership accelerator programming before fully integrating into the broader MBA@Rice community in year two.

The business world moves fast. Why wait to build your foundation?

Applications are officially open for the inaugural October 2026 cohort. Connect directly with an enrollment specialist at [email protected] to learn more.

Marketing professor Utpal Dholakia turns a familiar idea on its head in Forbes. We tend to assume “frictionless” is always a better way to vacation — pay once for everything and stop thinking about it. Dholakia argues the opposite can be true.

For Dholakia, that tab arriving with every poolside cocktail is a quiet brake on consumption. The first drink is bliss, the seventh less so, and each card swipe nudges you to stop while you’re still ahead.

How do you bring untold stories to light? For Michael Garcia '26, a recent alum of the Virani Undergraduate School of Business, the answer lay deep in the archives.

Backed by a Moody Undergraduate Research Fellowship, the business and history double-major focused his senior thesis on reconstructing the lives of agricultural workers in the Rio Grande Valley. He spent months tracing stories of labor, migration and survival through the Bracero Program — the 1942 binational agreement that brought millions of Mexican men to the United States as temporary workers — and the decades that followed.

The work was rigorous archival history, but it was also deeply personal. His own parents worked the fields in the very region he studied.

Military careers rarely follow a straight line, and that can make the path to graduate school harder to navigate. Rice Business has partnered with Service to School, a national nonprofit that gives veterans and service members free application counseling, mentorship and peer support.

The partnership joins a wider network of support at Rice Business, from the Veterans Business Battle startup competition to military education benefits and the Rice Business Veterans Association. As interim dean Jeff Fleming puts it: “Through our partnership with Service to School, we’re helping ensure talented veterans and service members have the guidance, resources and support they need to thrive.”
