80% of teachers report handling student behavior issues at least a few times a week.

Many schools turn to PBIS to help, yet it often falls short of the change they hope for. The problem usually isn't PBIS itself. It's treating it as a rewards system, when lasting change takes much more.

Dr. Amy Grosso outlines what actually moves PBIS from a short-term initiative to real cultural change.

The FY26 COPS SVPP grant window is open! 💰 Don't wait to start building your application.

The Community Oriented Policing Services School Violence Prevention Program (COPS SVPP) offers up to $500,000 for eligible school districts to invest in safety technology and security improvements, including communication systems, panic alarm systems, visitor management, entry control equipment, maps of schools, security cameras and/or systems (and accompanying equipment), & more.

Yet many applications fall short for a simple reason: schools wait too long to begin planning.

Successful applicants will typically:
📋 build stakeholder support early
📋 gather vendor quotes and documentation in advance
📋 align funding requests to specific safety needs
📋 develop a clear implementation strategy

Want practical guidance on preparing a stronger application and how technology can support your school's safety goals?

Is telling children not to talk to strangers online enough? Not really and here’s why.

In the latest episode of School Safety Today, Dr. Amy Grosso speaks with Alejandra Monroe from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children about why internet safety conversations need to go beyond “don’t talk to strangers online.”

Children and teens need to know they can come to a trusted adult without shame, fear, or blame. Open, ongoing conversations help build the trust and problem-solving skills they need to seek support when online risks become real.

What Is Mandated Reporting? What K-12 Schools Need to Know 06/12/2026

Most school staff know they’re mandated reporters, but do they know when to actually submit a report?

Many people worry about what happens if they report something that doesn’t end up being a real problem. Or they think that reporting a concern requires them to investigate.

But mandated reporting does not require the reporter to do any investigation—simply report their observation. School staff do not need proof that abuse or neglect has occurred before making a report.

The threshold for reporting is reasonable suspicion. Once that threshold is met, the responsibility is to report the concern—not to confirm details, confront anyone involved, or decide whether the situation is serious enough.

Clear training and accessible procedures can help school staff understand their responsibilities and act with confidence when student safety concerns arise.

The effects of cyberbullying can dramatically affect a student's wellbeing and their school environment. But if students are worried they'll get in trouble for reporting, feel unsure who to trust, or have had their concerns ignored in the past, they may avoid speaking up.

A healthy reporting culture has to be built on more than a tool or process. It requires trusted relationships, clear expectations, and consistent follow-through so students know their concerns will be heard and then acted on.

Managing staff compliance training manually can make it harder for district teams to stay compliant.

When required training depends on manual reminders and follow-ups, administrators can lose valuable time chasing updates instead of focusing on the larger work of keeping staff prepared and compliant. With automated assignments, completion tracking, and training reports, districts can build a more consistent process that gives teams clearer visibility and reduces administrative lift.

Raptor Staff Compliance Training, powered by PublicSchoolWORKS, is now available at no cost to TASB RMF member districts.
