The Payne Center Public Safety Applied Research Fellowship, co-sponsored by the Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center, continues strong. Fellows from HBCUs across the country recently visited Capitol Hill and met with Congressman Bennie Thompson.

The NSF Excellence in Research (EIR) Summer Institute on Secondary Data brought together 22 early-career faculty and doctoral students from HBCUs for an intensive week of research training at Prairie View A&M University. Fellows gained hands-on experience in data analysis, programming, research compliance, and research design while exploring key issues in public policy, public health, and juvenile justice. The program continues through the ICPSR Summer Program at the University of Michigan, where fellows will further strengthen their research skills and advance their scholarly work.

The Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center works nationally to reduce juvenile delinquency. The Center has partnered with the Payne Center of the Thurgood Marshall Fund to have a summer internship for 10 college students in Washington DC. We will follow the students as they learn juvenile justice issues and how to implement public policy.
