“Read alouds are one of the simplest—and most powerful—ways to build a reader.
It’s not just storytime… it’s instruction.
When children listen to books, they’re hearing the sounds of language, which supports phonics.
They’re seeing and hearing words over and over again, which strengthens word recognition.
They’re also listening to fluent, expressive reading—which is something they can’t yet do on their own.
And most importantly, they’re making meaning.
They’re building vocabulary, background knowledge, and comprehension.
But beyond the skills…
they’re building a connection to reading.
And that’s what makes it stick.
Read aloud. Build the reader.”

Phonics is like a puzzle, like locks and keys, like bricks that make a building. Letter/sound patterns come into view, become more familiar, and expand the reader’s ability to make words. It’s a work of art, it is! It’s both a challenging and awe-inspiring skill. It’s builds reader confidence and reading capacity. I’m looking forward to sharing more on this with you!
