Saturday, June 23, 1883- The Huntsville Gazette-A Fountain of Unsurpassed Beauty-Messrs. J. & B. Lambert received last week and put in operation in their Drug Store, at a cost of $800 a fountain, the Manitobia , which, for beauty of finish and artistic grace, must be seen to be admired. It furnishes the delicious and cooling beverages of Ginger Ale, Vichy and Soda Water at 5 cents a glass. The following is but a poor description of this beautiful fountain. The body is of Sevier marble, with roof and covers of the same. Tennessee marble forms the corner shelves and the shelf which supports the water attachment. A unique, handsomely engraved tablet of plate glass is to be seen in front. The water attachment is so arranged that there is no need to disturb it, while the apparatus is being filled. Elegant bronze statuettes surmount each of the four corners of the mammoth , artistic structure.

Wednesday, June 22, 1892-The Huntsville Weekly Democrat-Hotel Monte Sano is rapidly filling up and guests are arriving every day on every train, , to spend the summer at the famous resort. So far, between forty and fifty guests have arrived. ( See Photograph)

Services were held in the Church of the Nativity on Sunday for the first time since about the middle of April , when it was closed for repairs. During that time, the Chapel was used, but was rather crowded.

Friday, June 18, 1976-The Huntsville Times-Miss Alabama Visits the Hairdresser-Russellville beauty Denise Davis, , crowned Miss Alabama Saturday night in Birmingham paused in a round of public appearances here Thursday for a hair summit at The Masters in Dunnavant's Mall. Hairdresser Bruce Bray brushes Miss Davis' brown tresses here as they both consult the Masters' mirror to assure that she remains the fairest of them all.

Elected-Dr. Ralph Winton, a Huntville optometrist, was recently elected President of the Alabama Optometric Association. The association consists of 144 of the state's 200 optometrists.

Thursday, June 17, 1858-The Southern Advocate-The Weather since Saturday has been extraordinarily cool, so much so that fires on Sunday, , Monday and Tuesday were very comfortable. We had havy rains on Friday and Saturday and there must have been hail somewhere to have produced the cool weather. It is bad for the cotton crop, and we hear much complaint of the lice on the plant. We have never known as much rain or as cool a season as the present has been.

Tuesday, June 15, 1976-The Huntsville Times-Miss Baker, the first primate in space 17 years ago and now a resident of the Alabama Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, will be a featured guest on Wednesday's Dinah Shore Show. Gathered for the Los Angeles, Calif., taping of the show are Ed Buckbee, Director of the center, Sandy Duncan, John Byner and Dinah Shore. The show will be aired at 9 a.m. on the local TV cable's channel 9.

Another Opening-Martha Humphreys, President of the Huntsville Little Theater, cuts a ribbon to open the Little Theater's new building. Backing her up are Helen Hubbard , who has served the Little Theater in many capacities, and Dr. Robert James, President for the 1976-1977 season. The building on Plummer Herman Road, a mile west of the Ardmore Highway, will give the group space for rehearsal, storage and set construction. Performances will continue to be at the Von Braun Civic Center.

Blacck Barons Play Baltimore Tonight- The Birmingham Black Barons, seeking to climb back into the van of the Negro American League, take on the potent Baltmore Elite Giants at Optimist Park Tonight. Wednesday, June 15, 1892-The Huntsville Weekly Democrat- The work of tearing down the old Market House began today, and our citizens will, ere long, be greeted by an attractive new building in lieu thereof. The old brick has been purchased by Mr. Stegall, who will use it in the construction of a store building.

An excursion will be given to Nashville, tomorrow on the Elora Rod, for $2.60, the round trip. It promises to mbe a very pleasant and interesting trip and, we have no doubt, that a large crowd will tak advantage of the reduced rates to visit the beautiful Rock City.

Monday, June 14, 1976-The Huntsville Times-Anna Chase (5) and Nancy Chase (10) observed Flag Day by putting up the colors at the old Chase Post Office. This will be the last time Flag Day will be observed at the Madison County Landmark. The post office , established in in 1910, will be closed June 18, The Chase post office was established to provide a railroad parcel post package pickup for then largest nursery in the United States. Anna and Nancy are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Chase Jr.

Friday, June 13, 1823-The Alabama Republican-Another and more general meeting of the citizens is desired at the Huntsville Inn on Monday next, at 4 o'clock P.M. to make further arrangements for the celebration of the anniversary of Independence. The Committee.

Barbecue! On Thursday the 19th inst. there is expected an assemblage of candidates, and other gentlemen, at the 16th Section, of Township No. 3 in Range 2,east, where there will be prepared a repast for their accommodation by James Cotton.
