Please help us welcome Ms. Acklin to the Burg family! Ms. Acklin has 11 years of experience in special education and is passionate about helping students reach their full potential. She earned her master’s degree from Alabama A&M University in 2021, and will complete her Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Special Education this summer, with graduation in August.
Outside of school, Ms. Acklin is a proud mother of two boys, one who attends the University of North Alabama and another who is entering high school. She also enjoys breeding American Bullies and have three beloved dogs, Nala, Fly, and Stormy, who are very much a part of her family. When Ms. Acklin is not working or spending time with her family, you can usually find her with an iced coffee in hand; it’s one of her favorite treats!
Ms. Acklin believes that strong partnerships between home and school are essential to student success, and she looks forward to collaborating with her parents throughout the year to ensure students have a positive, supportive, and successful learning experience. Ms. Acklin states she is excited about the opportunity to work together and can’t wait to celebrate Whitesburg’s student growth and achievements!

A note from Ms. Acklin:
Dear Community Supporters,
As I prepare to begin year 11 at a new school, I am excited for the opportunity to support students in our resource classroom. My goal is to create a welcoming, engaging, and supportive learning environment where every student can develop the academic, social, and functional skills needed to be successful.
Many of our students require specialized materials, sensory supports, organizational tools, and hands-on learning resources to help them reach their full potential. To ensure that all students have access to these important resources, I have created an Amazon Wish List containing classroom supplies and educational materials that will directly benefit our learners.
If you would like to support our classroom, any contribution, big or small, would be greatly appreciated. Every donated item will help provide meaningful learning opportunities and create a positive educational experience for our students.
Your generosity will make a lasting impact on the lives of children who work hard every day to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. Thank you for considering a donation and for supporting the success of our students.
Thank you for your kindness, support, and investment in the future of our students.

Please welcome Mrs. Brooke Sitterly to the Burg! She is so excited to join the WBES 5th grade team this year! Ms. Sitterly graduated from Aurora University in Illinois, and this will be her 10th year teaching. She loves everything about being a teacher and truly enjoys getting to know her students and fostering amazing relationships with them. She, her husband, and boys moved to Alabama 5 years ago and love everything about it. In her free time, you can find her at the ball fields. Both of her boys play baseball, and her husband is a high school coach. They live the baseball life 24/7 and she adores being a baseball mom. Mrs. Sitterly states that it is a true honor to be a part of the Whitesburg family and is so excited to be here and we are honored to have her!!

This is Ms. Sitterly’s wishlist:
Let’s give our new 5th grade teacher a warm Burg welcome!
As she gets settled into her new school, classroom, and community, we’d love to help make her feel right at home. If you’re able, please consider picking an item from her wish list to help her prepare for a great school year.
If purchasing an item isn’t possible, sharing this post is just as appreciated and helps us reach more people who may be able to help.
Thank you for supporting our teachers and helping us give her the best start at the Burg!

A note from Ms. Hammett:
After nine years in special education, a lot of my sensory equipment are in desperate need of replacing. The larger items will go in our school’s sensory room to be used not only by my caseload, but all special education students at Whitesburg. I’m also asking for adaptive materials that I go through a lot of with a large caseload such as pencil grips, extra clothes for accidents, and calm down items. I appreciate the help in giving my students the supports they need to bloom!

A note from Coach Massey:
I ain’t too proud to beg. 😂 Ok, I am.
But I’m still gonna do it.
Most of you know I teach elementary PE, truly the best job in the world! But it’s also one of the more expensive teaching positions because our equipment gets used hard every single day by 400+ little hands. Things get worn out, broken, and eventually need replacing.
So I’m hoping some of you might feel led to help by donating something from my wishlist this summer! Every single item helps make our students’ school year more fun, active, and memorable. We use this equipment not only during PE classes, but also for Field Day, PBIS celebrations, AR parties, Fun Fridays, and so many other special events throughout the year.
We do receive some state funding, but it only goes so far when equipment is being used daily by so many students. I would be so grateful for any support, big or small, and I’d love for our students to see just how much their community loves and supports them. ❤️
Thank you all so much!
I believe the link lets you send it straight to the school, if not I can send you the address and put my name as who to deliver too. Or if you want to see me and my crazy girlies this summer, get it sent to you and I’d be happy to meet you to get it! 😊
***also, if you could share this to maybe grab some more traction, I’d be very grateful!
