Students are encouraged to find and develop their own sensory supports that can be used both in and outside of school. The school provides fidgets, sensory rooms and breaks, and other sensory items to help the students discover what works best for them. Social, Emotional, and Life Skills
are incorporated into all classes throughout the day. In addition, a daily life skills class provides instruction in targeted areas. Students also participate in monthly field trips where life and social skills are put to practical use. A daily snack time and outdoor walk is incorporated into the morning routine. Students also go outside for an exercise period after lunch. An extended physical activity period is added one day a week. Accreditation
The Independence Academy is accredited by the State of Indiana and is required to offer state mandated testing. Speech and occupational therapy services are provided.
