An AYS, Inc. staff member noticed her on the way out, a young mom sitting on the curb in the parking lot with her two kids.
Her car overheated on the way to pick up her son. She had to wait for it to cool down before she could drive home. She couldn't afford to fix it.
She'd already been denied for state child-care assistance. Didn't think she'd qualify for anything else. The AYS staff member told her our financial assistance picks up where state assistance leaves off.
She applied. She got the scholarship. A few years later she didn't need it anymore. Last Christmas she donated to help another family going through the same thing.
It started with someone who noticed.
Behind every family like hers is a business community that either shows up or doesn't. AYS has been showing up for 45 years. If your company wants to be part of that, we'd love to start a conversation. Reach out to Dene Nichols at [email protected] or learn more at ayskids.org.

We would like to remind you that our AYS, Inc. administrative offices and Summer Days camps will be closed today, Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.
This federal holiday commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people living in Galveston, Texas, received word of the Emancipation Proclamation, which had made their enslavement illegal when it was signed into law more than two years prior.
Juneteenth quickly became a local holiday, where formerly enslaved people and their descendants celebrated their freedom, often with community gatherings, elaborate meals, and public readings of the Emancipation Proclamation. It became an official federal holiday in 2021.
This Juneteenth, we welcome you to reflect on the true meaning of freedom, and to consider how we can work together to preserve it for the next generation of Americans and beyond.

Most after-school programs follow the market. They go where it's easy, where it's profitable, where the families have the most resources.
AYS, Inc. goes the other direction. For 45 years we have shown up in the communities across central Indiana where families are working hard and resources are stretched. Where a steady, safe place after school isn't a nice-to-have. For some kids, it changes everything.
If that sounds like the kind of community investment that matters to you or someone you know, we'd love to talk. Reach out to Dene Nichols at [email protected] or learn more at ayskids.org.
