How did you hear about Union?

🐾 Lost and found . . . 37 years later.
When Chris Culver lost his wallet in 1988 at Centrifuge summer camp, he never expected to see it again, but all of that changed when he received a package in the mail last year.

While remodeling the PAC after storm damage and flooding last spring, contractors came across a wallet. With the help of FUGE administrators and some really great record keeping, Union was able to track down Culver and mail him the long-lost wallet.

“It’s like a time capsule,” Culver said. For months after receiving the wallet, he carried it around so he could tell the story. Almost everyone was in disbelief.

Union holds a special place in Culver’s heart not only for the unexpected joy he’s received in this little bit of history restored, but once upon a time, he also met his wife at Union during another church camp.

Culver eventually attended Auburn University and went on to earn his Master of Divinity at Beeson Divinity School. He pastors at Birmingham Community Church in Hoover, Alabama.

🚀 The Time Machine landed in 2010.

We are pleased to present Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary President Danny Akin with the M.E. Dodd Denominational Service Award.

For 22 years, Akin has served as the sixth president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and is retiring at the end of July.

“Dr. Akin has given Southern Baptists decades of dedicated, faithful service through academic service, extensive preaching and writing and by his steady example as a husband and father,” said Ray Van Neste, Union’s vice president for university ministries.

Voted on by Union trustees, the Dodd Award is the highest denominational service award Union gives. It is given to a leader within the SBC who displays excellence and leadership in Southern Baptist life as well as friendship and commitment to Union.

Congratulations, Dr. Akin! Thank you for your service to Union and the SBC.
