Today, Edward Waters University honors Juneteenth, a day of remembrance, reflection, and celebration marking the end of slavery in the United States.

As Florida’s first independent institution of higher learning and one of the nation’s proud Historically Black Colleges and Universities, we recognize the resilience, perseverance, and contributions of those who fought for freedom and equality. Juneteenth serves as a powerful reminder of our shared history and our continued responsibility to advance education, opportunity, and justice for future generations.

Let us celebrate freedom, honor the legacy of our ancestors, and remain committed to building a brighter future for all.

Dr. A. Zachary Faison, Jr., President and CEO of Edward Waters University, has appointed Mr. Lloyd H. Nesbitt as Vice President for Campus Operations and Facilities Management, effective July 6, 2026.

President Faison makes this appointment at a pivotal moment. Edward Waters University is entering the most significant period of capital investment in its institutional history, with multimillion-dollar construction and capital projects commencing this summer and continuing over the next 24 to 36 months. Mr. Nesbitt will provide executive oversight of facilities management, campus operations, construction and project management, and the physical infrastructure that supports the University's students, faculty, and staff.

Mr. Nesbitt joins Edward Waters University from Alcorn State University, where he served as Associate Vice President of Facilities Management with responsibility for three campuses encompassing more than two million square feet across 100 buildings and over 1,700 acres, directing a staff of 60. His prior service includes construction oversight and procurement leadership for Fulton County Government and senior facilities and auxiliary roles at Alabama State University and Clark Atlanta University. He brings more than two decades of disciplined operations leadership and the stewardship of state and federal construction funds.

As the University prepares for this significant period of growth, Mr. Nesbitt's proven leadership in higher education facilities and capital project management will be invaluable. He understands both the technical demands and the mission of this work, and he is the right leader to steward the campus into its next era.

The Edward Waters University community excitedly welcomes him to Florida's 'Destination Institution' of Emerging Eminence.
