Pet cancer education and awareness. Financial Assistance for some SEVO families. Jenga came into my life when he was just 3 months old. So I adopted him.

I was an Animal Control Officer and he was a wild, mangy puppy. He had a lot of health issues and was terrified of everything. I started fostering him to prepare him for adoption, but his anxiety and fear were going to take years to work through. In addition to the anxiety, he has skin problems, digestive issues, a luxating kneecap, broken teeth........Then on August 6, 2019, at 9 1/2 years old, h

This week is Animal Rights Awareness Week and we can all do things to recognize it.
Adopt an animal, don't buy one.
Consider where your food comes from. A pescatarian, vegetarian or vegan diet isn't for everyone, but consider the path your food took to get to your plate. Don't eat veal or foie gras, buy cage free eggs, research companies and restaurants before doing business with them.
Learn about native species around you and how to live in their space symbiotically.
Consider where your clothes come from. Avoid leather, fur or any other animal products. Or in the least avoid companies that have a history of treating the animals poorly.
Read labels for any animal byproducts.

No matter what you are doing you can make choices to respect animals.

Earlier this month I did a post about the EGFR/HER2 Vaccine, an amazing and very promising immunotherapy that has been in trials for a few years. Bucky, one of the pups we first introduced several years ago, received this vaccine. He had uveal melanoma when he was a puppy and had to have his eye removed. Several years later, in 2022, there were some masses found in his lungs and he was given 2 months before his quality of life started to deteriorate. They tried chemo, but he had a very bad reaction and it had to be stopped. Mom then found the EGFR/HER2 vaccine and Bucky was accepted. He received the 2 injections, 3 weeks apart. His body responded as it should and he is still doing amazing. Remember he was given 2 months before his quality of life would deteriorate in 2022.

He is due for follow up x-rays, bloodwork this month, so we will do another update when that happens.

You can follow Leo and his brother Bucky at

Today is Check Your Pet Day, the day to do the nose to tail checks on all the animals in the house. Doing this check helps you notice anything new or changing earlier. Finding things earlier can make a big difference in treatment options and prognosis.

Tomorrow is Check Your Pet Day, so today we prep. Get your tracker so you can document everything on the nose to tail checks. I can send it via email or Facebook Messenger.
