This one is well-deserved! π
So proud of LINC's President and CEO, Janet Miles-Bartee, who was honored this week with a resolution from the Jackson County - Missouri Legislature.
The resolution recognized Janet's extraordinary contributions to LINC and to older adults across Kansas City. Under her leadership, LINC partnered with the Palestine Senior Citizens Activity Center, growing its membership from fewer than 100 seniors in 2024 to more than 500 today. Older adults in the Prospect Corridor now benefit from improved nutrition, health screenings, exercise classes, social activities, and a renewed sense of community.
The resolution put words to what the people walking through the doors at Palestine already know: Janet believes every person deserves to age with dignity, connection, and purpose.
Congratulations, Janet! π

Prom isn't just for high schoolers! ππΊ
Last Friday, LINC partnered with Senator Barbara Anne Washington to host a prom for Kansas City seniors, and we had a ball! The eventβs theme was Fire and Ice, and attendees showed up and showed out in looks that were red hot and ice cold. π₯π§ Seeing our seniors dressed up and dancing together reminded us exactly how much they deserve to be celebrated!
LINC serves people at every stage of life across Kansas City, which means seniors get the same investment of time and care that we bring to everything else we do. Thank you to Senator Washington for making this night happen with us! π

If you've ever wanted your work to mean something beyond the bottom line, keep reading. π
We're looking for a Director of Development to help fuel the work that strengthens families and builds stronger communities across Kansas City. This is a senior leadership role, working directly alongside our President and COO to grow LINC's fundraising capacity through major gifts, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, annual giving campaigns, and donor stewardship.
If you have five or more years of development experience, a proven track record of securing major gifts and grants, and a passion for community impact, we'd love to hear from you! π’

Safer neighborhoods are at the heart of LINC's work! Children do better in school when they feel safe, and families thrive when their communities are stable.
Since 2023, LINC has been part of KC 360, a multi-organizational movement led by KC Common Good that brings community stakeholders together every Thursday to build collaborative strategies against violent crime. This week, Senator Barbara Anne Washington joined the meetingβa reminder that this work reaches all the way to the state level.
Every voice at that table matters, and LINC is glad to be one of them. π£οΈ

The families LINC serves show up in national data whether we name them or not. π That's why we pay close attention every year when the Annie E. Casey Foundation releases the KIDS COUNT Data Book.
Missouri scored above the national average this year and ranked 28th in the nation, with real strength in economic well-being. But the report flags two concerns we can't ignore: children losing health coverage as federal policy shifts put Medicaid gains at risk, and more than 70% of Missouri fourth and eighth graders still not proficient in reading or math. π
Data like this shapes the conversations about funding, policy, and the investments that determine whether kids in our community get what they need to thrive. β¨

Sports can change the trajectory of a young person's life! π
However, for a lot of young people, the difference between playing competitive sports and never getting the chance comes down to access. LINC's partnership with Trilogy Sports & Fitness, Inc., supported by DM Injury Law, is about closing that gap.
Recently, students at Foreign Language Academy in Kansas City Public Schools trained with Trilogy founder and master elite level trainer Corey Phillips and his team to get a serious look at what it takes to compete at the high school and college level. LINC Athletic Director Jason Ervin wants to expand the program across LINC's middle school programs, because the doors that sports can open are worth the work it takes to walk through them. πͺ
Connecting Kansas City kids to opportunities that can shape the rest of their lives is what we do. Read the full story and watch the video: kclinc.org/linc-and-trilogy-sports-prepare-youth-for-higher-sports-opportunities/
