Faithful leadership in Black ministry contexts requires more than perseverance. It requires depth, clarity, and theological grounding.
The Doctor of Ministry in Black Leadership and Ministry at Nazarene Theological Seminary was created for leaders serving in the realities of the Black Church and Black communities, where ministry is shaped by history, resilience, justice, and hope.
This cohort-based doctoral program engages Black Church history, Black Theology, Black Womanist Theology, and Black Liberation Theology while remaining deeply connected to each student’s ministry context.
Students stay rooted where they serve while learning in synchronous community and participating in site visits in Kansas City, Washington, D.C., and Accra, Ghana.
Your doctoral work should strengthen the work you are already doing.
Applications are open now.
Apply by July 31, at nts.edu/dmin

At NTS, professors are not distant experts. They are pastors, mentors, scholars, and guides.
Students learn from faculty whose wisdom has been formed through years of ministry and theological reflection.
This is one reason students consistently describe NTS as life changing.

For students in NTS's Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Formation and Discipleship program, the Ireland site visit is one of the most anticipated experiences of their journey.
It may be because of the beautiful landscapes, the sacred architecture, or the exceptional facilitators they meet along the way. More likely, though, it is because pilgrimage shapes the very fabric of the program, and Ireland offers a unique opportunity to experience it firsthand.
At NTS, context is where the work of theology finds its truest fulfillment. Our Doctor of Ministry students spend most of their learning hours immersed in their own ministry settings, but each year they are invited to step into someone else's context and discover what God might reveal in that new space.
Ireland is one of those places. Its beauty is unforgettable, but its deeper gift is the invitation to see, listen, and learn with fresh eyes.

With sadness we announce the passing of Dr. Lamar Hardwick, also known as the Autism Pastor, after a difficult journey with cancer. Dr. Hardwick was a champion of disability ministry, respected preacher and pastor to many. We ask that members of our community hold his wife and her family in our prayers. May God's grace forever shine on the legacy of Dr. Hardwick who graced us with his wisdom and passion.
