Heading into Memorial Day weekend, our Genesis team came together for our final staff dinner of the year to celebrate both the holiday and an incredible year of hard work. Today is a bittersweet day at Genesis.

It’s bitter because we hosted our final Lead to Read KC visit of the school year. Every Tuesday at noon, Gail and a dedicated group of 20 volunteers—a mix of retirees and professionals spending their lunch breaks with us to read with our students. Over the past year, countless books were shared, but even better, lifelong friendships were formed.

It’s sweet because we got to celebrate our final Tuesday together with a Kona Ice party! 🍧

To our Lead to Read KC volunteers: Thank you for your time, your consistency, and your hearts. You’ve made a lasting impact on our students!

The 6th graders in Mr. Love’s class had a blast dressing up just like him to kick off Teacher Appreciation Week.
