Let's talk about reading comprehension in first grade! Our kids have made so much growth this year and we are SO proud of them! We have been using high interest, nonfiction text to apply a variety of comprehension skills as a review. Last week we read National Geographic Kids: Snakes by Melissa Stewart to review skills like connections, comparing and contracting, text features, and key details! The kids LOVED it!

We are keeping How To Writing fun and hands on with simple activities! We made these crepe paper butterflies and wrote how to make them!

One of my biggest surprises of this school year(of let's face it, many) is how much difficulty students have had using scissors and glue. It makes sense when you think about how many digital activities students did last year vs hands on....but I hadn't even made the connection. Anyone else seeing similar concerns?

I look at this at the start of every year.

I really love this lesson. It so so important and applies to everything we learn in first grade!
