โ๏ธ๐ Keep Reading All Summer Long! ๐โ๏ธ
Summer is a wonderful time for our students to explore new stories, discover favorite characters, and build a lifelong love of reading and there are plenty of incentives to encourage them to do so! We encourage all students to participate in summer reading opportunities through our school, local library, and community programs. Just 15โ20 minutes of reading each day can help children maintain and strengthen their reading skills while having fun!

W is for Wild Animal! Third graders have been working hard this quarter on their animal research. To celebrate their learning and to see some of the animals right here at Somers, the Racine Zoo visited our school! Students were able to spend some time with a hissing cockroach, leopard gecko, box turtle, and bearded dragon! Students also shared their animal research with one another, presenting what they learned about their animals' habitats, bodies, life cycles, and more!

Mrs. Bereza and Ms. Parker's classes were treated to a donut hole party for having every student in the class return their library books by the final due date of May 22nd! Nice job!
We also had 344 of our students return all of their library books by the final due date and 10 of those students won a raffle for a poster! Congrats to them as well!
Lost library book notices have been sent home, but it is not too late to get those books returned! We currently have 54 books marked lost for this school year - lets get that number closer to zero so those books will be available for all to check out next school year!
Check under those beds, in between couch cushions, in the car, and anywhere else books can get lost!

Another great day with Farmer Stephanie from The Funkin Farm and the students of Somers Elementary!
The 4K students did a little cooking project with Farmer Stephanie and made yummy veggie roll ups! They talked about all the healthy ingredients, some of which are growing in our garden beds and the importance of trying new foods๐
Farmer Stephanie also worked with classes on a new learning station for the courtyard, complete with a chalkboard area. Classes can talk about and record time and temperature!
A trellis was also made with the help of students! A few finishing touches and it will be ready for pumpkin and gourd vines! Like a grand entrance to the garden beds!
Thank you SO MUCH Farmer Stephanie for your incredible and generous connection with our school!
Make sure to follow The Funkin Farm for fun summer opportunities with Farmer Stephanie!
