While western North Carolina saw small areas of improvement this week, conditions worsened in central and eastern parts of the state. Lakes in the state have receded significantly, affecting boating conditions.

The South and Southeast saw improvement this week, with degradations in North Carolina and Tennessee. The rest of the Lower 48 saw a mix of improvement and degradation to dryness or drought. Conditions worsened on Puerto Rico.

U.S. Drought Monitor June 18, 2026

For the 50 states and Puerto Rico, the U.S. Drought Monitor shows 45.98% in moderate drought or worse, compared to 46.93% last week.
