Could your school staff recognize and respond to a seizure emergency?

The Pennsylvania House has passed HB 1045, legislation sponsored by Representative Kazeem, that would require school nurses and school personnel with direct student contact to complete epilepsy and seizure recognition training.

According to the Epilepsy Foundation, approximately 456,000 children in the United States live with active epilepsy, making seizure preparedness an important part of student safety.

Michele Manter, DNP, CRNP, CPNP-AC, ACCNS-P, CHPPN, CCRN, CPN, a pediatric nurse practitioner at a Philadelphia children's hospital, says training school personnel to recognize seizures and respond promptly can help prevent serious complications and strengthen partnerships between schools and families.

The bill now heads to the Pennsylvania Senate for consideration.

A major development in maternal health is making headlines.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, with support from numerous healthcare organizations, has released a Maternal Immunization Schedule to provide evidence-based guidance on vaccination during pregnancy.

For nurses, this isn’t just a patient care story—it’s often a personal one. As a predominantly female profession, many nurses will encounter these recommendations not only in practice, but also in their own healthcare decisions, family planning, and conversations with loved ones.

Maternal immunization remains an important strategy for protecting both pregnant patients and newborns from serious illness.

Thank you to American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists Women’s Health NPs American College of Nurse-Midwives American Academy of Pediatrics AAFP for endorsing the schedule. The experts have spoken and it’s based on the evidence!

Most nursing students worry about exams, clinicals, and graduation.

For Jasmin LeCadre, nursing school came with an unexpected challenge: a breast cancer diagnosis.

While many would have understood if she stepped away, Jasmin was determined to keep going. She attended chemotherapy treatments and continued showing up for class, refusing to let cancer define her future.

Today, she’s a graduate of the NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing.

“I had already survived so much, and I didn’t want that moment to be the thing that stopped me.”

Her story is a powerful reminder that resilience isn’t always about putting life on pause—sometimes it’s about finding the strength to keep moving forward, even during life’s most difficult moments.

No clinical evidence to support this, but a fresh pair of scrubs appears to improve confidence, posture, and hallway strut by approximately 87%.

Healthcare professionals, can anyone confirm these findings? 😏

Repost from The Wall Street Journal

The U.S. labor market bounced back last month with healthy job growth and a decline in unemployment. But another trend also came into focus: the continuing fall in labor-force participation.
The share of the working-age population that is either working or looking for work—known as the labor-force participation rate—edged down to 61.9% in March, its lowest level since 1977, outside of the pandemic.

The rate has been gradually falling since the early 2000s, largely due to the aging population. It nosedived in the early months of the pandemic, then rebounded and grew for a while before resuming its downward slide in 2024.

The continued aging of the population and the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown have helped drive the fall in recent months, economists said.

The rate matters because it helps set the pace of economic growth. The economy grows either because more workers join it or because each worker produces more.
