Where do you go when you need to feel grounded, calm, at peace, and energized?
For me, it’s nature.
Botanical gardens, hiking trails, the beach, the mountains… wherever I happen to be. Somewhere I can slow down, breathe, and soak up the beauty around me.
In Los Angeles, Descanso Gardens is one of those places.
I arrive. I walk. I breathe. I observe.
I leave feeling better.
This was filmed in the Ancient Forest at Descanso Gardens.

The best trips I’ve taken haven’t been about ticking boxes. They’ve been about following my curiosity, trusting my instincts, and creating memories that were meaningful to me.
That’s why I love the idea of an anti-bucket list. Not because it’s about limiting yourself, but because it’s about being intentional with your time, energy, and adventures.
For me, solo travel is all about having the freedom to do what you want, when you want, and where you want—not what a guidebook, social media, or someone else’s bucket list tells you that you should do.
The older I get, the more I realise that a life well lived isn’t about doing everything. It’s about doing the things that truly matter to you.
What do you think? What’s on your anti-bucket list?
Introducing the 'Anti-Bucket List,' the Wellness Trend for People Who Are Done Forcing Themselves to Have Fun — VICE But some people are actually rejecting the modern bucket list and creating an “anti-bucket list.” Or, my favorite alternative title, a “f—k-it list.” This list consists of items you’d rather avoid.

What’s one place you’ve been longing to visit?
For me, it was Sedona.
I talked about going for years before I finally made the trip. Now it’s one of my favourite places.
The funny thing is, confidence doesn’t usually arrive before the trip.
It grows because of the little adventures we take along the way.

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of your next chapter…
You don’t need to book a trip to Bali.
Sometimes a solo date, a little adventure in your hometown, or simply trying something new is enough to remind you that you’re still here.
That you matter.
That you have choices.
That there are still adventures waiting for you.
That this chapter isn’t over.
The beautiful thing about solo travel isn’t really the travel.
It’s remembering who you are while you do it.

This looks good enough that I may have to activate Hulu again… 👻
Nat Geo always has the best cinematography and somehow manages to make me think:
“I HAVE to go there.”
If they added a QR code at the end of each episode with an offer to follow in the host’s footsteps, I’d probably be on the next plane ✈️
Maybe 🤔 I’ll put off getting Hulu right now… 👻

Once you know what you love locally, it’s much easier to find it when you’re travelling solo anywhere in the world.
Where is your happy place?
What do you need more of right now?
More peace and quiet?
More adventure?
More fun?
More joy?
More time for yourself?
Whatever your answer is, see if you can give yourself a little of it this weekend.
It doesn’t have to be a big trip.
Sometimes it’s a walk on the beach.
Sometimes it’s watching a sunset.
Sometimes it’s exploring a new neighbourhood, visiting a museum, wandering through a botanical garden, or spending a few quiet moments in nature.
Sometimes it’s simply stepping away from your routine long enough to hear yourself think.
The more you learn about what makes you feel happy, energized, peaceful, inspired, or alive close to home, the easier it becomes to create those moments wherever your travels take you.
What do you need more of this weekend?

What if the things that bring us joy could also help us live longer?
I found this study fascinating. It suggests that activities like reading, listening to music, visiting museums, attending concerts, and creative hobbies may be linked to slower biological aging.
Always a good thing. 😊
As I read it, I started thinking about solo travel.
One of the things I talk about often is doing more of what energises us and less of what doesn’t. Following our curiosity. Making time for the people, places, and things that make us feel engaged and alive.
Whether it’s wandering through a museum, listening to a street musician, discovering a hidden café, striking up a conversation with a stranger, or simply sitting on a park bench watching the world unfold, travel invites us to engage with life rather than rush through it.
Maybe that’s one of the reasons travel can feel so transformative.
Not because we’re escaping our lives, but because we’re fully present in them.
And I believe curiosity is one of the healthiest habits we can cultivate.
What brings you so much joy that it might just be keeping you young?

Have you ever driven past somewhere so many times that you stop seeing it?
Then one day, you find yourself on foot and it makes you stop in your tracks.
That happened to me on Saturday on the way to the Burbank Farmer’s Market.
An art fair forced me to park farther away than usual, and I found myself walking past Burbank City Hall, a beautiful Art Deco building I’ve driven by too many times to count.
The intricate tile work on the fountain. The gentle sound of tinkling water. The elegant architecture. A true blue California sky.
It was one of those simple moments that made me stop and appreciate how magical living in California can be.
One of the things solo travel has taught me is that exploring doesn’t always begin with a plane ticket or some grand plan.
It can start by paying attention to the simple beauty that surrounds us.
What have you noticed recently that made you stop and stare? 💚

Don’t pay for hotel features you don’t need and won’t use.
When I’m booking somewhere to stay, I always ask myself:
✔️ Do I need free parking?
✔️ Do I want free breakfast?
✔️ Will I actually use the pool, spa, gym, or resort facilities?
✔️ Is the location right for what I want to do?
✔️ Is it near public transportation if I don’t have a car?
✔️ Is the area safe to walk around in?
Most importantly:
Am I paying for things I’ll actually use?
I’ve stayed in luxury resorts that were worth every penny. Miraval was one of them.
But recently, while planning a trip to Palm Desert, I found myself comparing a luxury resort with a much simpler hotel nearby.
The resort looked amazing, but once I added up the room rate, resort fees, taxes, meals, and everything else, the cost escalated dramatically.
A few miles away, I found a reasonably priced hotel with great reviews, free parking, free breakfast, a mini fridge, gym, and pool.
The most expensive hotel isn’t always the best choice.
The best hotel is the one that gives you what you need at a price that leaves room in your budget for the experiences you’ll remember.
This photo was taken at a lovely little motel in Palm Desert. One of my favourite memories was relaxing in the whirlpool bath on a balmy California evening, looking up at the stars while palm trees swayed gently overhead. 🌴✨
