WHAT IS ALL HANDS IN?
We're glad you asked.
At All Hands In, we believe that soft skills have the power to change lives, strengthen communities, and transform workplace culture.
But what exactly are soft skills?
They're the human skills.
The skills that help us communicate clearly, collaborate effectively, navigate change, build trust, solve problems, and create meaningful connections.
They're the skills we use every single day—but rarely get taught.
This month, we've been exploring the soft skill of Communication.
And if there's one thing we've learned, it's that communication impacts everything.
How we build relationships, how we lead, how we work with others, how we navigate conflict, how we advocate for ourselves and how we create belonging.
The truth is, communication is just one piece of a much bigger picture.
At All Hands In, we help individuals, teams, organizations, schools, and communities strengthen the skills that make collaboration and connection possible, including: Awareness, Adaptability, Communication, Accountability and Collaboration
And because we know that people learn best when they're engaged, our workshops blend creativity, play, reflection, and hands-on experiences to make learning memorable, practical, and fun.
Because soft skills aren't just something you learn.
They're something you practice.
And when we practice together, we create cultures where people can thrive.
If you're looking for engaging soft skills training for your team, organization, school, nonprofit, or community group, we'd love to help.
Send us a message or connect through the link in our bio to learn more about workshops, coaching, facilitation, and custom training opportunities.
Let's build stronger humans, stronger teams, and stronger communities—together.

EFFECTIVE VS. INEFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
Kick Assers, communication isn't just about talking.
It's about creating understanding. And the difference between effective and ineffective communication often comes down to a few simple habits.
Effective Communicators Practice Active Listening
They're not just waiting for their turn to talk.
They're listening to understand.
They ask questions. They stay curious. They make space for others to be heard.
Effective Communicators Lead with Empathy
Empathy doesn't mean agreeing with everyone.
It means being willing to consider another person's experience and perspective.
When people feel understood, connection becomes possible.
Effective Communicators Offer Focused Attention. Have you ever tried having a meaningful conversation with someone who's checking their phone, watching television, or thinking about what they need to do next?
Attention is a gift.
And one of the most powerful things we can offer another person is our presence.
Effective Communicators Know Their Intent
Before entering an important conversation, it can be helpful to ask:
"What outcome am I hoping for?” Connection? Clarity? Problem-solving? Support?
Understanding your intention helps guide your communication.
On the flip side...
Interrupting can leave people feeling dismissed.
Judgment and shame often create defensiveness instead of understanding.
Being easily distracted can communicate that the conversation isn't important.
Unfocused communication can create confusion and frustration.
The good news?
Communication is a soft skill.
And soft skills can be practiced.
None of us communicate effectively all the time.
We're human.
The goal isn't perfection.
The goal is becoming more aware of the habits that help us build connection—and the habits that might be getting in the way.
Which of these communication skills comes most naturally to you?
Which one are you currently working to strengthen?

It's a practice, not a perfect.
Kick Assers, can I let you in on a little secret? I still have conversations that don't go the way I hoped. Sometimes I realize halfway through that I'm not listening as well as I could be. Sometimes I leave a conversation wishing I had asked one more question.
Sometimes I need to circle back and say: "That's not what I meant.” "Can we try that again?” "Help me understand."
Years ago, I would have seen those moments as failures. Today, I see them as practice. Because communication isn't something we master once and then magically get right forever.
It's a living skill.
Every conversation is a new opportunity to practice listening. To practice curiosity. To practice clarity. To practice courage.
And some days we'll do it beautifully. Other days we'll stumble over our words, make assumptions, miss the point, or realize we were more focused on being understood than understanding.
That's okay. The goal isn't perfection. The goal is awareness. The goal is noticing. The goal is returning to the practice. One of the reasons I love soft skills so much is that they remind us that growth isn't a finish line we cross.
It's something we choose again and again.
Conversation after conversation. Relationship after relationship. Moment after moment.
So if you've been hard on yourself because communication feels challenging, let this be your reminder: You don't have to be perfect. You just have to keep practicing.
What's one communication skill you're actively practicing right now? Share it in the comments below and let's learn from each other.
And if you'd like support building communication skills that foster greater confidence, connection, and authenticity, connect with us through the link in our bio. We'd love to help.

"Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” One of the things I've learned through my own soft skill journey is that communication isn't just about talking. It's about alignment.
When our thoughts, words, and actions are disconnected, communication can feel frustrating, confusing, or exhausting. We might say "yes" when we mean “no." We might tell others we're fine when we're struggling. We might know what we want to say but find ourselves unable to express it clearly.
And when that happens, it can impact our confidence, our relationships, and our ability to show up authentically in the world.
As a soft skills practitioner, I don't help people become perfect communicators. I help people become more aware communicators.
Together, we explore questions like: What are you really trying to communicate? What beliefs or fears might be getting in the way? How does your body respond when difficult conversations arise? What would it look like to communicate with greater clarity, confidence, and authenticity?
Through coaching, playful exercises, reflection, and practical skill-building, we create space to strengthen communication from the inside out.
Because effective communication isn't about performing.
It's about aligning who you are with how you show up.
And when your thoughts, words, and actions begin working together, something powerful happens:
You build trust. You strengthen relationships. You advocate for yourself more effectively. And you create deeper, more meaningful connections. If you've been struggling to find your voice, navigate difficult conversations, or communicate with greater confidence, I'd love to support you.

Communication is one of those soft skills that seems simple… Until you're trying to explain something important, set a boundary, navigate conflict, ask for what you need, Or help someone understand how you're feeling.
The good news?
Communication isn't a gift some people have and others don’t. It's a skill. And like any skill, it can be practiced. Here are four ways to start building stronger communication today:
Practice Active Listening
Listening isn't waiting for your turn to talk. It's giving someone your attention with the goal of understanding rather than responding. When we feel heard, we're more likely to stay connected, collaborative, and open. Tip for practicing active listening: SLOW DOWN. Take a breath before you speak.
Practice Non-Judgment
Judgment often creates defensiveness. Curiosity creates connection. The next time someone shares an experience, opinion, or perspective that differs from your own, see if you can get curious before jumping to conclusions.
Know Your Intent
Before entering an important conversation, ask yourself:
"What is my goal here?” Am I trying to be understood? Solve a problem? Express a feeling Build connection? Knowing your intention helps your communication become clearer and more effective.
Circle Back, Repeat, and Try Again
Here's a secret: Even skilled communicators get it wrong sometimes. Messages get misunderstood. Feelings get hurt. Words come out sideways.
Communication isn't about perfection.
It's about being willing to revisit a conversation, clarify your meaning, and try again. Because growth often happens in the repair.
Kick Assers, communication is a lifelong practice. Every conversation gives us another opportunity to listen, learn, connect, and improve.
Which of these communication skills feels easiest for you? Which one could use a little more practice?

"Your conversations create your world. Speak of delight, not dissatisfaction."— Tao Te Ching
Take a moment and think about the conversations you've been having lately.
Not just the conversations you've had with others...
The conversations you've been having with yourself.
Are they filled with possibility? Curiosity? Gratitude?
Or do you notice they’re filled with frustration, criticism, worry, and disappointment?
Now, let's be clear, Kick Assers—this isn't an invitation to ignore challenges or pretend everything is sunshine and gummy bears. Life can be hard. Relationships can be messy. Systems can be frustrating.
But where we place our attention matters.
The stories we repeat become the stories we strengthen.
The words we practice become the lens through which we experience our lives.
Communication is more than exchanging information. It's the process of creating meaning.
Every time we speak, we're helping shape a reality—for ourselves and for the people around us.
So today, I want to offer a gentle invitation:
Notice what you are speaking into existence.
Notice what conversations you return to again and again.
Notice whether your words are helping build the world you want to live in.
Can you speak about a challenge while also honoring a possibility?
Can you acknowledge what's difficult while also making room for delight?
Can you celebrate something that's going right?
Communication isn't just about being heard.
It's also about choosing what we amplify.
In the comments, share one thing that's bringing you delight right now. Let's practice creating a little more of it together.

# AllHandsInWorkshops

One of my favorite questions to ask workshop participants is:
"What surprised you about using puppets to practice soft skills?"
This participant's answer?
"It was really fun."
And honestly, that response makes my heart happy.
Because somewhere along the way, many of us learned that personal growth has to be serious. That building skills has to be hard. That learning only counts if it feels like work.
At All Hands In, we challenge that idea.
What if developing communication, adaptability, emotional intelligence, stress management, and collaboration could feel playful?
What if learning could include curiosity, creativity, laughter, and connection?
What if the very things that help us regulate our nervous systems and access joy also help us become more effective humans?
Puppets create a unique opportunity to practice soft skills from a place of exploration instead of perfection. They help us lower our defenses, engage our imagination, and discover new ways of relating to ourselves and each other.
And sometimes, in the middle of all that learning...
We have fun. Imagine that.
If you're looking for a fresh, engaging way to build soft skills for your team, organization, school, or community group, let's connect.
Send us a message or visit the link in our bio to schedule a conversation about bringing an All Hands In workshop to your community.
Because growth doesn't have to be boring to be meaningful.

There’s a big difference between effective and ineffective communication, Kick Assers.
For many years, I was not an effective communicator. And truthfully? I still have days where I need to circle back, ask for clarity, and check in to make sure what I said actually landed with the intention I hoped for.
Because communication is work. And the work of communication becomes even more challenging when we don’t have clarity around: WHAT we’re saying. WHY we’re saying it. Or, HOW we’re saying it
The truth is, many of us don’t stop to think about the what, why, or how when we communicate… and that confusion can create friction, disconnection, or conflict.
I know for me, when I used to try communicating an idea, a need, or an issue, my body would become overwhelmed. My throat would tighten. My eyes would tear up. My voice would get soft and I would physically make myself smaller.
It was massively uncomfortable.
So how did I become a better communicator?
Time. Practice. And a lot of soft skill work that included expanding my awareness and emotional intelligence.
As we continue unpacking the soft skill of communication this month, I want to invite you to check in with yourself. Notice how your body feels when you have something important you want someone else to understand.
Do you tense up? Shut down? Over explain? Get reactive? Go quiet?
Communication isn’t just about speaking. It’s also about listening.
This month we’ll be exploring ways to work through discomfort, strengthen communication capacity, and find our voices… because we all deserve to be heard.
But sometimes being heard starts with learning how to listen to ourselves first.
And if you’re curious about ways to build your communication skills, connect with us through the link in our bio and let’s schedule a time to chat.
You got this.

06/01/2026

Hey hey, Kick Assers. New month, new soft skill theme…
This month at All Hands In we’re exploring the soft skill of Communication.
Communication is: “The imparting or exchanging of information. The successful conveying or sharing of ideas and feelings.”
But here’s the thing, Kick Assers… communication is so much more than just talking.
It’s the pause before reacting. It’s listening instead of waiting to respond. It’s tone. Body language. Timing. Curiosity. Clarity. Boundaries. Repair. It’s our ability to help another human being understand what’s happening inside of us… and our willingness to understand what’s happening inside of them.
And in a world where people are often speaking at each other instead of with each other, communication has become a deeply necessary soft skill.
Strong communication helps us: Build trust, navigate conflict, strengthen relationships, advocate for ourselves, collaborate more effectively and create safer, more connected communities.
This month we’ll be exploring communication through the All Hands In lens: What it is, why it matters and ways to practice it.
Because communication isn’t about being perfect. It’s about practicing connection. One vulnerably courageous step at a time.
What’s one thing you wish people understood about the way you communicate?
