Brad Reichard, UAA's delegate reports.... I am proud to share some exciting news from Sigma Pi UCLA Upsilon following the 58th Biennium Convocation in Orlando.
Upsilon earned four national honors:
• Grand Chapter Award
• Most Improved Chapter
• Top Alumni Association Award
• Louis Foley Alumni Newsletter Award
These awards reflect the hard work of the entire undergraduate chapter and the leadership of Past Sage Michael Gallagher, whose tenure helped position Upsilon for one of the most successful periods in recent chapter history.
Mike was also recognized nationally with the Michael P. Carey Award, one of Sigma Pi’s highest honors for undergraduate leadership.
Current Sage Patrick Oliver and the chapter’s undergraduate leadership team continue to build on that momentum, and the future of Upsilon has never looked brighter.
Additional national recognition went to Tommy Rudowicz, recipient of the Guy “Red” Mackey Outstanding Sportsmanship Award, and Richard Barretto, recipient of the Dr. Robert L. Burns Faculty Advisor Award.
As an alumnus, I was honored to be elected by Sigma Pi’s undergraduate representatives and alumni volunteers to serve on the Fraternity’s Grand Council.
More importantly, it was a privilege to watch UCLA’s undergraduate leaders earn recognition on the national stage while building relationships with brothers from chapters across the country.
Those connections, the exchange of ideas, and the shared experiences that take place at Convocation are among the most valuable outcomes of the weekend.
Congratulations to Mike, Patrick, Max Wang, Rupert Atkins, and the entire UCLA on a truly historic Convocation.

Will Ferrell with SigPI brother at USC in the 1980s.
In his senior year of high school, Ferrell and a friend would perform comedy skits over the school's intercom system, with cooperation from the principal; the two had to write their own material. Ferrell also performed comedic skits in the school's talent shows. He was voted "Best Personality" by his classmates.[16] He enrolled at the University of Southern California, where he studied sports broadcasting and joined the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. In college, he was known for a few pranks. On occasion, he would dress in a janitor's outfit and stroll into his friends' classes. He was also known for streaking around campus with a few other people from the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.[16] Ferrell earned an internship at a local television station in the sports department, but he did not enjoy the work.[17]

Ralph Rea (Y 1954) living the life near the beach at age 94
Jay Ross visited Ralph in Los Alamitos and heard about the glory days of Upsilon in the 1950s. He met his wife Patricia from Kappa Delta, excelled in mathematics and was an early coder and data operations manager in the defense industry!
His brother Everett Rea (Y 1950) also excelled in mathematics and served at the end of WWII in Okinawa.
Ralph was a ski host in Mammoth for decades and looks forward to a couple runs on the slopes this upcoming winter!
If you're in Los Alamitos, look up Ralph... he has endless great stories!
