A local, completely non-biased journal asked for my thoughts on the various walkouts/protests across the district Friday. Here is my quote:

"I understand some students feel strongly about national issues, and I respect their desire to be heard.* However, those 700 children’s right to make their voices heard shouldn’t interfere with 32,000’s right to be taught without being disrupted by dangerous concepts like ‘civic engagement’ or ‘democratic participation.’"

It has come to my attention that certain MISGUIDED STUDENTS are planning to abandon their EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES to participate in what they call a “peaceful protest.” As your elected school board representative and guardian of proper educational conduct, I must address this GRAVE THREAT to our district and government.

Let me be PERFECTLY CLEAR:

Education can ONLY occur when seated at a desk, preferably in silence.

Ignore your teachings about American figures who practiced civil disobedience. Understand these have ABSOLUTELY NO RELEVANCE to their lives today.

The development of critical thinking was never intended to be implemented in real-life scenarios.

Students who exercise their constitutional rights will face SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES.

Remember: The true measure of educational success is not creating engaged citizens who understand democratic participation, but rather producing individuals who follow directions without question!

Attendance will be MANDATORY on this day. Our security team has been instructed to document all participants for their permanent records, a practice we believe perfectly aligns with American educational values.
