Students recently traveled to compete against teams from across the country in the National Quiz Bowl Championship while representing the Owls with pride. Along the way, they challenged themselves, learned from top competitors, and made lasting memories together!

Henry Turley ’59 was among the opponents, in the mid-1980s, to building an interstate highway on Mud Island. He had his own vision: a thriving, community-oriented neighborhood called Harbor Town that was walkable and bikeable. Today, Harbor Town is thriving. It’s not just houses and apartments but a grocery store, a doctor’s office, a hotel, and restaurants.

It’s all smiles at the 24th Annual Mid-South Summer Chess Camp as campers learn from some of the nation’s top instructors, including Grandmaster Joel Benjamin, Grandmaster Lazaro Bruzon, Women’s International Master Michelle Catherina, International Master Alex Velikanov, National Master Nolan Hendrickson, and Expert Jennie Liu, while sharpening their skills and making new friends at MUS.

When Andrew Harris ’22 arrived at Elon University, he received an acorn as part of a longstanding tradition symbolizing growth and potential. Upon graduating in May, he was presented with an oak sapling and chose to give back by donating it to the campus where he grew up.
Harris's tree now stands just east of Webb Field, where it will continue to grow as a lasting connection between his college journey and his MUS roots.
