The "College" colorway is Scarlet and Gray — DLO's Ohio State colors. One year in Columbus. 19.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.0 assists per game. Then picked second overall in the 2015 NBA Draft. Way of Wade

Arguably the greatest modern Nike basketball shoe ever made. I said what I said. The Nike Air Zoom GT Cut 1. 🏆🔥

Released in 2021 and so limited from the jump that most people never got a fair shot at a pair. The demand was overwhelming, the supply wasn't there, and Nike eventually stopped releasing new colorways altogether. Then last year they came to their senses — fresh colorways, real availability, and finally enough pairs on shelves for hoopers to actually play in one of the best basketball shoes ever made.

The three-layer cushion stack that changed the conversation: drop-in React midsole, full-length Air Zoom Strobel, and an additional Zoom Air unit in the heel. All of it sitting low to the ground, fast, and responsive in a way that no Nike basketball shoe had done before it. The neoprene and open-cell mesh upper moves with your foot like a sock. The TPU torsion bar locks the midfoot rigid. The plastic forefoot cage and internal heel counter keep you contained on every cut. The micro-tread traction on clean indoor courts? Perfect.

Five years later I'm still putting this shoe at the top of the list. That's not something I say lightly.

Two of the most underrated shoes in basketball right now going head to head. The Way of Wade 808 5 Ultra V2 versus the SPO Player1.5. The cushion matchup alone is worth talking about. 🔥

The 808 5 Ultra V2 brings the better cushion and bounce — that replaceable drop-in SUPER BOOM midsole with the Carbon Fiber Torsion Plate is genuinely one of the most comfortable setups I've tested all year. Better price at $159 versus $190. Better looks. And when it came to personal preference — the 808 5 Ultra V2 took it.

But the Player1.5 wins this matchup. Better fit — the 808 5 Ultra V2 runs slightly long and needs a half size down, where the Player1.5 is more reliable right out of the box. Better court feel. Better outdoors. Lighter on foot. Better dust resistance. And with traction, lockdown, materials, and support all tied — the Player1.5 covers more of what matters on court with fewer trade-offs.

The 808 5 Ultra V2 is the more comfortable shoe. The Player1.5 is the more balanced overall performer.
