UT and TSU Extension Shelby County

Today, our Shelby County Extension Staff enjoyed a great Staff Development Day with Blues City Tours! Mr. Edgar was a great guide! We visited several iconic Memphis landmarks, learned more about the city we proudly serve, and even watched the famous Peabody Ducks march. Although some staff members were missed due to programs and vacations, it was a wonderful day of learning, team building, and celebrating the city we call home.

Well it looks like our Shelby County 4-H youth had TONS of fun last week at the Academic Conference at UTK!!!

We had 6 fabulous youth represent the following 4-H topics:

💪Nutrition, Health and Fitness
🗣Communications/Public Speaking
🎭Performing Arts

Our youth learned LOTS and represented Shelby County very well!! We are so proud of our youth!! Until 2027 Academic Conference....

Join us for our Plant Clinic on July 14 from 12:00–1:00 PM at the Extension Office! Bring your questions, insects, diseased plant samples, or other plant specimens, and we'll help diagnose issues and provide research-based recommendations.

Congratulations to our Shelby County 4-H Wildlife Judging Team for earning 2nd Place Overall at the Tennessee 4-H State Wildlife Judging Contest!

We are so proud of the hard work, dedication, and teamwork these youth demonstrated throughout the season. Thank you for representing Shelby County 4-H so well and showing what it means to learn by doing!

What can we find in our Owl Pellet? Amazing things going on at JMG Camp at Agricenter.

TDA staff enjoyed spending time with this year’s AgTech class at Agricenter International in Memphis today.

Business Development Coordinator Colleen Coury provided an overview of TDA and the ways the department serves Tennessee agriculture. Animal Health Technician Kayla Cochran shared insights into animal health programs and protecting livestock.

AgTech is a summer program for students in grades 10-12 that introduces participants to the many facets of agriculture while building financial literacy, STEM knowledge, life skills and workforce readiness. Through hands-on demonstrations, field trips and guest speakers, students gain valuable exposure to career opportunities across the agriculture industry.

Thank you to AgTech for inviting us to be part of this year's program and for helping inspire the next generation of agricultural leaders!

The Horticulture Workshop at the Memphis Botanic Garden was a great success! Many thanks to our outstanding speakers, Joseph, Celeste, and Dr. Follis, for sharing their knowledge and expertise. We appreciate everyone who attended and helped make this an educational event!
