International trade association supporting the North American hardwood industry within the global hardwood community. The National Hardwood Lumber Association is also headquarters to the NHLA Inspector Training School (ITS). The ITS program teaches the rules and application of the NHLA hardwood lumber grading system and prepares students for a career in the hardwood lumber industry. Since its founding, the School has graduated more than 7,100 students from around the world.

Students in Inspector Training School Class 211 are hard at work at Purdue University, building the skills that serve as the foundation of the hardwood industry. From board runs to applying and testing their knowledge of the NHLA Grading Rules, every day brings hands-on experience that helps refine the attention to detail and decision-making skills needed for success in the hardwood industry.

Healthy forests don't happen by accident—they grow through active stewardship and long-term investment. 🌱

Through the third annual Alder Seedling Program, co-sponsored by NHLA and NWH, 21,000 alder seedlings were distributed to landowners across the Pacific Northwest to support forest diversity, improve ecosystem health, and strengthen working forests for future generations.
