In recognition of World Ocean Month, we're highlighting how students are turning the ocean into their classroom through Mesa Community College’s Marine Biology Study Abroad class.

From exploring coastal habitats to observing marine ecosystems firsthand, they are gaining a deeper understanding of the environments that sustain life on our planet while learning alongside local communities and cultures.

For Desiree Manrique, the experience has been transformative. As a Behavioral Sciences major and the first person in her family to study abroad, she has embraced the opportunity to expand her perspective through international travel and hands-on learning.

"Through studying abroad, I have gained valuable life skills, created unforgettable memories and developed a greater appreciation for the diverse world around me," she said.

Congratulations to Mike Brown and the New York Knicks on winning the 2026 NBA Championship! 🏀

Before leading one of the NBA’s most iconic franchises to a title, Brown played for the Mesa Community College Thunderbirds during a memorable era of MCC basketball.

Our Thunderbird family is proud to celebrate one of our own. Like we always say, “Once a Thunderbird, always a Thunderbird.”
