5 Professions That Often Require Credential Evaluation in the U.S.
Moving to the U.S. to pursue your professional career is an exciting step. Whether you are aiming for professional licensure or state certification, your international degree is the foundation of your future.

Here are 5 professions where a foreign credentials evaluation is typically the first step to determine your academic equivalency:

1 Nursing – Required to verify academic eligibility before applying for the NCLEX, or the "Visa4Nurses" immigration process.

2 Teaching – Required by state departments of education to confirm your degree equivalency for teacher certification.

3 Engineering – Necessary for professional licensure (PE) and to verify that your engineering education meets U.S. standards.

4 Accounting (CPA) – A critical step to ensure your study satisfies the requirements set by the Board of Accountancy

5 Beauty Professionals – required for professional licensing for barber and cosmetology boards

Josef Silny & Associates understands the specific requirements of state boards and professional organizations, ensuring your path to licensure is clear and accurate.

Undergraduate and Graduate Level: What Is the Difference?

Many international applicants are confused by the terms undergraduate and graduate in the U.S. education system.

Undergraduate level usually refers to the education completed before a bachelor’s degree. It may include associate degree programs, bachelor’s degree programs, and undergraduate coursework.

Graduate level usually refers to education completed after a bachelor’s degree. It may include master’s degree programs, doctoral programs, and certain advanced professional programs.

Why does this matter?

For foreign credential evaluations, the academic level of your education is important. A credential evaluation report helps clarify how your degree, diploma, or coursework compares within the U.S. system.

This can be important for:
• U.S. college or university admission• transfer credit review• graduate school admission• employment documentation• licensing or professional recognition

A degree title may look similar across countries, but the academic level can vary depending on the education system, program structure, admission requirements, coursework, and the degree awarded.
