A group of Sabres had the opportunity to visit the Pedro Pan exhibit at the historic Freedom Tower, a powerful and moving experience that brought the stories we are preserving to life.
A special thank you to Carmen Valdivia, curator of the exhibit, for sharing her insight and helping us better understand this important chapter in our community’s history.
The exhibit is beautifully curated, deeply touching, and well worth a visit. Through personal artifacts, video, photographs, and firsthand accounts, it honors the courage and resilience of the more than 14,000 children who came to the United States through Operation Pedro Pan.

Our Sabres recently had the unique opportunity to experience the legal profession firsthand through a two-day immersive program that took them inside both a courtroom and a top law firm.
Students were introduced to the many areas of law practiced within a leading firm and learned directly from attorneys about their career paths, daily responsibilities, and experiences in the legal field. Opportunities like these help bring classroom learning to life and provide valuable insight into future career possibilities.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this incredible learning experience possible for our students. ⚖️💚

A heartfelt thank you to Vanessa García and Victoria Collado of Abre Camino Collective, best known for producing The Amparo Experience and currently adapting Carlos Eire’s 2003 National Book Award–winning memoir Waiting for Snow in Havana, for giving our BTV and Speech & Debate students an invaluable workshop experience as we begin our Project Pedro Pan interviews. 🇨🇺
Through this meaningful initiative, our students will help preserve the stories of the 14,048 children who participated in Operation Pedro Pan, the largest exodus of unaccompanied children to the United States. Such an important part of the history of our community.
A special thank you to our first participants, Jessica Eagan ’96, who shared her mother Lucila Fernandez Gonzalez’s story, and Raul Vidal for helping bring history to life through their powerful experiences.
This is just the beginning of an important journey of remembrance, storytelling, and preservation. 💚
